What happened to Seth Mitchell ?

Post by Controversial »

Did he retire because it's been over two years since his 1st round loss to Arreola

That Arreola loss was a quick stoppage by one of the worst referees in boxing, Jack Reiss.

He was only really stopped once, by Jonathan Banks.

People overstated his chin weakness, there have been a lot worse than Mitchell. He should have kept on fighting.

This whole post is comical. Mitchell's legs were gone in the Arreola fight and he was hurt. If that wasn't a good stoppage, I don't know what was. Mitchell was badly hurt by Banks and Witherspoon, two guys you'd consider average punchers in the HW division.

Mitchell was beaten from pillar to post.
Great stoppage by the ref.

Poor David Price really has a bad chin (poor punch resistance).

Seth Mitchell was one of the most athletic heavyweight boxers around but it just proved how tough of a sport Boxing is to succeed at. I can't stand Jack Reiss and his act during fights which calls for him to stop the action for extended periods of time so he can be heard on TV chastising the fighters. But Jack made the correct call stopping that fight that night

Yeah about that...

I'm not usually one who goes with all the conspiracy theories regarding "fixes" & "dives" & such. Especially when the bouts in question are held on such a huge stage & under such tight scrutiny as part of an HBO telecast. But damn if Mitchell - Banks II didn't seem more than just a wee bit dodgy...
I mean, for all intents, it appeared early on that Banks was en route to pretty much the same result as in their first fight. Virtually every time his right hand touched Mitchell's chin ol' Seth was walking in post holes. I was somewhat shocked that Mitchell even made it out of the second round.
Then, all of a sudden, it not only appeared that Banks let him off the hook, but that he fought the remaining ten rounds as if he were boxing with a pair of handcuffs on. :-?

I think the reason for Banks poor performance was because of broken hand. Anyone else remember that?

It was frustrating match to watch. Felt like Banks could have won at any time if he just went for it. Instead he just did nothing

Mitchell had very poor coaching....so he had no technique.... And his knees were shot and you need great knees.

If you play Football all your life and never boxed a round - and go into Boxing at 25??? ..... You need Jack Blackburn.
