Evander, had he won some of these?

Post by NYDominican »

Evander Holyfield had a very distinguished professional boxing career. But, throughout his pro career, he lost to Riddick Bowe (twice), Michael Moorer, Lennox Lewis, John Ruiz, Chris Byrd, James Toney, Larry Donald, Sultan Ibragimov, and Nikolay Valuev.

Had Evander won some these losses, do you think that Holyfield could be rated among the top 5 Heavyweight boxers of all time?

If so, which of Evander's losses do you think knocked Holyfield out of contention among the top 5 heavyweight boxers of all time?

Please explain.

No he wouldn't any more than Rocky Marciano is ranked that high and he went 49-0... He just didn't fight anybody.

Neither did Bowe except for Holyfield.... He ducked Lewis, Mercer, McCall, Ruddock, Tyson, Tua and every big puncher there was.... He didn't take a shot real well and all those guys would have flattened him.... Holyfield knocked him down, but couldn't knock him out because Evander was really a Cruiserweight...

Holy came in too light for their 1st fight at 205.... In the rematch he built himself up to 217 and beat Bowe.... Then for the rubber match he was having some kind of physical issues like he had with the 1st Moorer fight... The media said it was heart issues... It was a problem Holyfield said was cured by going to a Hindu Mystic.

I'm not sure what it was for Moorer and the Bowe rubber match.... Holyfield was doing something that was messing his body up.... Dr Margaret Goodman told the press it as abuse of HGH...

He already arguably is top 5.

He was way past it when he lost most of them.

Agreed. Really only the losses to Bowe and Moorer that mean anything. He fought a great fight in the first Bowe fight; he just came up a little short. The lost to Moorer was much worse. He looked terrible in most of that fight.

You're wacked ..... Holyfield fought a lot of good fighters.... Bowe ducked all the big punchers.

Holyfield is EASILY top-ten all-time, even if one decides not to overlook the linear reality of boxing and chooses to focus on the alphabet and plastic.

Only Bowe, Moorer and Lewis losses can influence Holyfield's position in the lists of the all-time greats. However, in a Moorer fight there were the first signs of decline for Evander. That was past-prime Holyfield already. Yet I'd say, Evander has actually won the Moorer fight. And after Lewis Holyfield was washed-up. Still he was robbed against Valuev.
