Would Ezzard Charles become the World Light Heavyweight Champion?

Post by scorpio83 »

Most writers claimed Ezzard Charles as the best Light Heavyweight Ever despite not winning the title and outgrew the division to become the NBA Heavyweight Champion and defeated the aging Joe Louis to become the undisputed World Heavyweight Champion. My question is what if Ezzard Charles did win the World Light Heavyweight Title would he had been the first World Light Heavyweight Champion to win the World Heavyweight Title rather than Michael Spinks? I say Charles would and what is your opinion?

Charles and Tunney both could have been the light heavyweight champions of their eras and nobody could have done a damn thing about it. That's how good they were.

Possibly, depending on when he challenged for the belt. Don't know if he could take Archie a 4th time.

Agreed; Charles and Tunney would have won the light heavyweight title if they got a chance. Sam Langford probably would have as well.

Langford could have been champion from 147-175, maybe even 200, had he been given title shots. The best p4p of all time.

A tiny bit more luck and Dempsey would have beat Tunney in the rematch.

I agree, Langford could have been champion from 147-200 had he had a chance without politics involved.
