Kevin Satchell Announces His Retirement From Boxing

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Kevin Satchell has formally announced his retirement from boxing.

The former British, Commonwealth and European flyweight champion revealed the news on Wednesday.

Satchell, 29, hasn’t fought since June 2016 and has been agonising over the decision.

But the undefeated man (16-0, 3 KOs) has insisted that he has no plans to fight again.

“I’m retired now. I have no plans to box in the future,” Satchell told World Boxing News recently.

Satchell, who was at one point very close to a world title shot and boxed fellow Liverpudlian Paul Edwards as well as his namesake Chris during a glittering career, says that he will stay around boxing.

“It’s all about my son now and seeing where he can go with his own career,” he added. “He’s 10 in July so he’ll start having kids gloves the following season.

“I’ll be going for my amateur coaching license so I’ll still be around the sport but I won’t by my lad's coach.

“My son will be under my former amateur and professional coach Paul Stevenson so he’s in good hands anyway.

“I’m happy with what I achieved in my career with Paul and I’d like to take this chance to say thanks to the Everton Red Triangle who have looked after me since I was 12. I couldn't have got where I got without them.”

I don't get it. IMO, he's done the hardest part. Being undefeated. Won the Brit, Comm and Euro belts. It's like we mentioned on another thread. No one takes that road anymore. His next job was go at least challenge for a world title and he didn't even do that. 29 years old.

Anyone heard of him?

Seems strange.
Has he had a lot of injury problems?

Strange move. Always wondered what had happened to him. He got away with one against Ian Butcher in a British title defence.

Best of luck to him.

What are the odds he makes a comeback before the end of 2019?

I think that's it. He wants to become an amateur coach and he said it's all about his son now. Who is 10 years old.

He already hasn't fought in nearly 2 years.

He hadn't really had a meaningful fight since he won the EBU in 2014 so it was either injuries or motivation...

Shame he didn't get momentum after winning the European title. With the exception of the ferocious Daigo Higa, flyweight is a weak division now. Satchell would have had a chance of picking up a world title. Certainly a shame he didn't challenge for world honours.

Kev was actually in the biggest mismatch I have seen in British soil. Against an Argie about 10lbs lighter.

tbh i always thought he was among the least impressive brit and euro title holders ive seen. he was maybe just a tad better than ian butcher, if at all. open and little power. really benefited from a poor domestic and euro scene at that low weight.

not world level at all imo. the french guy higa butchered has every bit as strong a claim to being world class

but satchell deffo won some prestigous titles and should be proud. good luck to him.

why do you think comm, brit, and euro titles are the hardest part at that weight? reality check, in the really low divisions the competetion there is poor.this isnt smw.really, who were his 3 best opponents?

he turned it in just when it seemed the real threats would come. maybe he really wanted to keep an unbeaten record and new itd be tougher against world rated asians and latinos
