Roman Gonzalez Will Remain at 115, No Intention of Dropping

Former four division world champion Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez (46-2, 38 KOs) of Nicaragua held a press conference to officially confirm Gustavo Herrera as his new trainer, and Alfredo Corrales as being the main in charge of his physical preparation.

Gonzalez discussed his plans for 2018 and the future, reclaiming a world title and once again becoming the best pound-for-pound fighter in boxing.

The boxer is the first from his country to capture four world titles in four weight divisions. The boxer plans to remain at the super flyweight limit of 115 and has no plans to drop back to 112.

"Gustavo Herrera is one of the men who knows how much it cost me to get to the top. I remember we started working from far below, after I had my father Luis Gonzalez and three-time champion Alexis Arguello managed to crown me.

With him being there for the first time, who better than him to start this new stage," said Gonzalez at a press conference held on Thursday afternoon.

Herrera accepted the job with open arms.

"He humbly approached to work with him, I agreed and thank God we have reached an agreement and we are here," said Herrera. "There is a lot of work to do, but I'm happy because he's a great fighter and he must return to the aggressive level that he's always been known for.

González announced plans to travel to Japan next week to meet with his influential promoter Akihiko Honda, director of Teiken Promotions.

"My next opponent and the location of my fight will be made known after my upcoming trip. I will go there with my agent Carlos Blandon and I trust in God that 2018 will be a much better year than 2017," said Gonzalez.

"Chocolatito" intends to return to the ring in April, in a preparation fight.

Herrera believes believes the boxer should do a second fight, for better adaptation to the super flyweight division (115 pounds).

Still money fights, and attention at 115 so it might not be a bad idea, but I'd personally love to see him fight Nietes at Flyweight.

He would need to cherry pick or he will be shot soon (if he isn't yet). Taking this kind of damage like in his last 3 fights can't last long.

I'd still like to see him rematch Estrada and Cuadras. He should stay far away from Srisaket, though.

I think it's a safe bet they're gonna avoid that particularly matchup for him

Maybe Brian Viloria or some other fighter who's been around a while like that would be a good comeback opponent for Gonzalez.
