Spinks would definitely be Top 5, but I don't his resume is deep enough to compare with the Ezzard's and the Archie's of the past.
That being said I do think he'd do very well in head to head fights against those two.
Best Light Heavyweight Ever ?
Re: Best Light Heavyweight Ever ?
I think Spinks would do good against any light heavy. If he hadn't been trying to look out for Leon, he probably would have fought the Jamez Scotts, John Contehs, and possibly the Matthew Saad Muhammads of the world.
Re: Best Light Heavyweight Ever ?
I agree about Michael Spinks.... He was too big, tall, and strong for Moore or Charles.... He would beat them down.
Bob Foster might be a problem, and there's always a style that’s tough for everybody.. Spinks would fight Foster similar to the way he fought Larry Holmes.
Spinks had a Gangle Shanks method of getting tall guys to throw at him... He would appear to be shambling with his feet and guard.. He appeared to be half-cocked, vulnerable and unwary.. They would throw at him an hit nothing but air – and a hard flurry of punches in the face was their reward… If Spinks he got you with one punch he would follow it up with a dozen or 2 dozen more from the weirdest angles and he would never get tired. I knew he’d be tough for the much bigger Holmes. He was the trickiest guy out there.
He threw so many punches from so many angles he was damned hard to outpoint...
But his knees were going early... First it was one knee brace and then 2... I think Tyson would always murder him, but those knees were all bundled up to the max... I believe Micheal Spinks was going to retire regardless of the outcome.
