Marvelous Marvin Hagler: Best win?

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Carrying on with my 'Best Win Series'..

Image

He had a record 62 wins, with 52 KO's!

Record:

Had a record of 13-1-1 (12 KOs) in world title fights.
Had a record of 7-1-1 (6 KOs) against former world champions
He avenged all but 1 loss/draw (Leonard)

Which was his best and/or defining win?

What was his best KO win?

Some names that he has fought include:

Alan Minter
Vito Antuofermo
Mustafa Hamsho
Tony Sibson
Roberto Duran
Juan Domingo Roldan
Thomas Hearns
John Mugabi

--------------------
Another question..

Regardless of win/loss.. Who was his best opponent?

From the list above, this would include the likes of:

Ray Leonard

Marvelous greatest win and defining fight by far was when he see knocked out the great Thomas "The Hitman" Hearns. It can't get better than that. It was also his most courageous performance where he dug up deep and found a way to win. He had a big gash cut in the forehead and the referee was about to stop the fight if the cut kept bleeding profusely.

His best opponent, win or lose, was also The Hitman. I don't see it better than that. His second best opponent? Might be Roberto Duran or Sugar Ray Leonard.

I wouldn't say he got his most defining win so late in his career,

So, according to your view, which was Marvelous' defining fight?

Which was his best and/or defining win?

Thomas Hearns. He was extremely skilled and it looked like he just couldn't be outboxed in his prime.

What was his best KO win?

The 2nd against Hamsho.

Regardless of win/loss.. Who was his best opponent?

Duran and Leonard. Both gave Hagler tough fights, both results were close.

I don't think there's any question that Hagler's best victory was over Hearns.

Before that 1985 bout, Hagler was a star in boxing.

But by virtue of his riveting thrashing of Hearns, (dubbed The Great Eight Minutes) Hagler finally became a mainstream star.

Unfortunately the acclaim he finally achieved, didn't arrive until the tail end of his career.

Marvelous would have just 2 more fights, spread out over 2 years, before retiring.

Which was his best and/or defining win?

I scanned through his resume. His best win is definitely Thomas Hearns, and it would have to be his defining win too. Couldn't find anything else. I wouldn't say Duran defined him.

What was his best KO win?

Mustafa Hamsho #2

Regardless of win/loss.. Who was his best opponent?

Sugar Ray Leonard

:TU: Good picks.
I think the 2nd Hamsho win is underrated. He was a tough guy and to stop him that early was impressive.

Yeh, I think the first fight ended via split of majority decision.

Beating Kein Finnegan twice on the way up was also no mean feat........Hagler has pretty much said that these were hard, hard fights that tested him and got him ready for whay lay ahead.
