12 boxers who could win their first world title in 2018

Post by Enlightened-One »

"12 boxers who could win their first world title in 2018, including Chris Eubank Jr." (Source: Talk Sport):

Admittedly it’s been watered down by a plethora of belts in modern boxing, but the goal of becoming a world champion is still the ultimate achievement of which young fighters dream.

Last year saw plenty of stars emerge to claim their first titles. Gervonta Davis, David Benavidez, Mairis Briedis, Dmitry Bivol, George Groves and Ryan Burnett to name just a few. And, as we head into 2018, boxing is in a strong position with plenty of fresh talent knocking on various sanctioning body doors.

For the purpose of this article we will only consider the four recognised titles: WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO. Secondary WBA ‘regular’ titles are excluded.

1. Chris Eubank Jr.
2. Oleksandr Gvozdyk
3. Josh Warrington
4. Luis Ortiz
5. Anthony Yarde
6. Andrew Selby
7. Rex Tso
8. Yunier Doritcos
9. Jose Ramirez
10. Regis Prograis
11. Josh Taylor
12. Daniel Jacobs

It could be a bit early for Andrew Selby and Anthony Yard..
Selby got an impeccable amateur record and Yarde looks like a beast they claim he is.. However they still lack pro fight experience that may rule them out of a title shot in 2018..

Think those particular pair will more likely be given a few progress fights 2018 building up to a more likely world title shot in 2019 or could even be as late as 2020... But 2 very good prospects all the same..

Talk from Hong Kong is Tso may take the whole year out
Can't see who Selby would take a title from at 112 or 115, likewise Warrington at 126

Koura at 105 is worth a shout, Konishi at 108, Dalakian at 112, Taylor at 140
