Lenroy Thomas vs. David Allen II Added To Brook-Rabchenko Card

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

David Allen will get a second crack at the Commonwealth title. The Conisbrough heavyweight lost his first fight for the belt last May. Allen was outpointed by Lenroy Thomas at Bramall Lane.

But he has been handed a lifeline by promoter Eddie Hearn after an agreement was reached with the 32-year-old Jamaican for a rematch.

The fight is set to be confirmed by Matchroom on Wednesday and will form part of the supporting cast to Kell Brook’s return against Sergey Rabchenko on March 3, at Sheffield’s FlyDSA Arena, exclusively live on Sky Sports.

And Allen, a former challenger for the WBC International heavyweight title who has been out of the ring since stopping Tom Dallas last July, will be hoping to right the wrong at the first opportunity.

The card, named ‘Rise Again’, will feature Sam Eggington in his super-welterweight debut after losing his European welterweight title to Mohamed Mimoune last October before admitting that he can no longer make the 147-pound limit.

Also on the card, Gavin McDonnell will challenge Gamal Yafai for the WBC International super-bantamweight title and Boxing Scene understands that Dave Coldwell-trained Jordan Gill will box on the bill, with further additions to be revealed in due course.

Good fight, although at a pretty low level even for what the Commonwealth title has become.

I genuinely just want to see evenly matched fights and if both guys can earn a decent wedge from it all the better. At least the title is active.

That said Allan isn’t a top ten British heavy and many would argue not top 15. Hard to see what he’s done to deserve the shot

All in all, that's a pretty good card.
Im so glad Dave Allen gets another go at Thomas.
I was hoping it was still happening after the initial cancellation

I can see Allen edging a Points win here.
I thought the first one was close.
There will be a few young British Heavyweights looking at this as a good stepping stone for the Summer.

Dubois, Joyce and Gorman.

I like Allen, I follow him on Twitter, and he is by far one of the best people to follow! I'm glad he has got the shot again at Lenroy, if his back holds up I think he can win pretty convincingly on cards

matchroom sure does a lot for allen. bunch of tv time. fghts vs top names. 2nd chances at fghts he legtmately lost closely. hes been absolutely maximzed from a handling standpoint

btw last fght thomas barely beat a really medocer low us scene guy called ed fountan (whod been shutout recently to a 6-10 #240 boxrec guy). shows how low the level really is regardless of a belt but i enjoy the fight they gve us :TU:

coco you still sure that world title shots coming for allen with a win?

btw it seems a lot of ppl beleve allen underperformed and really should beat guys such as thomas but whats that based on. i dont beleve one 'should' really beat the other. very close matched and would prob splt a lot of matches if they fought 20 of them.

Having sat through the first one of these live, I think I'll give it a miss.

Absolute stinker of a fight, neither has any knock out power and the quality is unlikely to improve this time around.

I thought Allen won the first fight quite clearly - poor standard but I felt he outworked Thomas. Thomas is the more talented so it could be interesting if he has got a bit fitter and upped his workrate.

Fair enough, can see why people thought Thomas, but I just thought Allen's aggression and comeforward style and general work rate, although not enough to make him an out of sight unamimous winner was enough for him to win most of the rounds on my card. He seemed to want it that bit more, Thomas was a bit too lazy at time - but as I said, far more talented.

I'm not really au fait with Allen. Why is he signed to Hearn and why is Hearn loyal to him when he's bang average? Does he have something over Hearn?

Allens bang average at best, especially at heavyweight, thought he clearly lost to Thomas first time and the second should be easier for Lenroy

first fight was boring as hell, don't know why Allen keeps getting so many chances on primetime Sky & on box office cards. Don't think I've seen him in one exciting fight

For the same reason most fighters get chances/paid well, because they are popular. He may be outside of the British top 10 but which other fighters at that level get talked about on here or are known by the average boxing fan.

I'm fine with him getting undercard slots, not sure that is overselling his status

Its a sad sign of the times when somebody can get a title shot based on being jokey on twitter.

Hearn kept sticking it to him at the Presser. Kept saying he's gotta do it. They act as though they're related. Even gave him a round of applause after he spoke.

Allen knows he needs to perform. But the above poster is correct. He does get talked about a lot, especially on these forums.

TBF to Allen he came in at late notice against Whyte and Ortiz, the Thomas fight was his 1st real chance, in all fairness he blew it but I wouldn't say he's had great oppurtunities in the sense he's getting full training camps and the chance to go in with "no stone unturned" method

It is sad. But we live in the age of social media and self promotion.
The thing with Allen is he comes of as a nice guy, and from what people who have met him have said, he is.
I like him because he tries really hard, I've never seen him give anything less than 100% and he has taken on big fights that are way above his level.
Refreshing in this day and age.
More power to him.

He asked for the Ortiz fight himself. Haf a month to prepare.

hes had excellent opportunities relative to what hes actually accomplished. hes getting another one here, another big tv opportunity with a second chance for the commonwealth title

tell me, how many fighters of his level have gotten the same promotional backing as dave allen. it would be very few relative to the number of fighters there are at that level

daves been looked after very well
