Terry Flanagan vs. Maurice Hooker To Land at O2 Arena

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

To begin with, Boxing Scene was under the impression that the fight between undefeated Flanagan (33-0, 13 KOs) and 28-year-old Texan Hooker (23-0-3, 16 KOs) would take place at Manchester Arena on March 17, exclusively live on BT Sport and allegedly.

But it was then revealed by multiple sources that it would instead take place on April 14.

The Copper Box Arena in the capital was thought to be the front-runner to host the fight, as part of a double-header featuring Billy Joe Saunders’ next defence of the World Boxing Organisation middleweight world title, but Scene has now been informed that the fight will take place at the O2 Arena in Greenwich.

It is understood that allegedly, who promotes both Flanagan and Saunders, will confirm the event soon.

Further details will be revealed in due course.

I have nothing against Terry, he's a fellow Manc, but he doesn't shift tickets in Manchester, never mind O2 Arena. Copper Box is ok.. assuming BJS, is definately headlining the card. It should be okay. I still think BJS and Terry would be better at the MEN.

I doubt they'll use the whole arena though.

He's still an unlicensed blob. He's not fighting in eight weeks surely.

Jeepers if Tedious Terry Flanagan is the main event you'll see more empty-seat-covering black material than at Whitby Goth Festival.

Seems weird to put Flanagan and Tyson on at the O2 in london.

Wouldn’t it have made more sense having at the Manchester Arena?!

Think the problem is most of these arenas are booked months in advance - Hearn has o2 3-6 months at least - same with MEN/Echo....they host so many events these days.

Card should be decent, think the plan is:

Saunders
Flanagan -Hooker
Fury return (this date or Belfast)
Daniel Dubois
Anthony Yarde
Bradley Skeete
Jack Catterall

If Tyson isn’t fighting then it’d be interesting to see how well this sells. I can’t imagine BJS’s opponent will be a big name and both he (except in the Eubank Jr fight) and Flanagan have struggled to sell more than a few thousand tickets.

BJS may have a little more shine now that he's ventured to Canada and whipped David Lemieux's ass so thoroughly in his own backyard. That's definitely the best win of his career thus far, and a lot of the time a performance like that enhances your drawing power. We'll see if it does here.

I think it will certainly help him but I’d be surprised if it will add substantially to his ticket sales. Whilst it was a terrific performance against Lemieux it wasn’t overly exciting and viewing figures weren’t great (obviously mainly due to the timing).

It’s great he’s more active now though.

They should add Rio Ferdinand's debut to the show, that'll probably fill the arena......

They’ll likely have hired the bottom tier with option of top if needed - think that holds 8000 region.
