Povetkin vs. Price on Joshua vs. Parker Undercard

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Anthony Joshua’s WBA mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin has been offered a spot on his upcoming undercard.

Joshua is aiming to unify his IBF and WBA gold with Joseph Parker's WBO belt, but knows he will eventually have to defend against Russia's Povetkin.

"We've got a great relationship with [Povetkin's promoters] World of Boxing and he might box on the card," Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn told Sky Sports.

"We've offered it to Dereck Chisora and David Price. If Povetkin boxes on the card, it will be against a Brit.

"Povetkin is a good name, and a good heavyweight. And it gives a Brit a chance to be involved in a big fight."

Asked when the WBA might enforce the mandatory defence upon Joshua, who wants to fight three times in 2018, Hearn said: "[They are likely] to call it in the summer, so maybe [fight in] December.

"Financially, [Povetkin's promoters] have stated that they would rather come to the UK. We won't be going to Russia.

"At some point in 2018, it is likely [Joshua] will have to fight Povetkin. We'll see when."

Povetkin v Chisora or Price is alright for the undercard I suppose. Should both be pretty easy wins for Povetkin thought. As long as it's not Dave Allen.

Povetkin v Price would be over very quickly. Povetkin has a big dig on him and would get inside on Price very easily. It'd be like a repeat of the Teper fight.

Hearn will use this appearance as a show-off fight. Should be a nice performance for the Brit fans. As he mentioned, Povetkin's promoters want to stage the fight in the UK.

Against David Price? Oh fck off, utter joke. He cannot get past a journeyman let alone Povetkin plus he has bad history against PED fighters

I'd love it if Price knocked him out in the 1st round.

Won't happen but I'd be well chuffed :OhYes:

Price only hope is Big Right in 1st couple - then he’ll gas and get stopped on his feet again.

That’s his punchers chance though.

Makes sense to showcase for AJ fight and the millions that come with it - and keeps him active.

Good business for a chance.

Absolute nonsense from Hearn.

No way on gods green earth that Povetkin is fighting over here on a AJ undercard.

It’s PR from Hearn who is absolutely bricking it for when AJ-Povetkin goes to purse bids.

In the words of Lillyhammer- Pack your laderhosen boys.

(I do realise the quote is inaccurate due to it being Russia)

Does anyone give him any sort of chance? Surely it'll be a quick KO for Pov and retirement for Price?

Price must've been offered some serious money to take that.

Wasn't Povetkin vs Rahman originally scheduled for the Haye vs Chisora bill - until the BBBoC stepped in.

At least Price gets to pick up a nice few quid in which would be his last fight.

That's if it happens of course.

Price is expected to be blasted out early......and this is it for him, a loss surely has to signal the end of his career.
But back against the wall in a fight with no real pressure, well it should bring out whatever is left in him. Povetkin has not looked so good since he's been off the gear, and Price is a massive puncher and will have big size and reach advantages.

Price should come out and go for it all guns blazing. Not kamikazee style, but just stick the jab in like a battering ram and then chuck that right hand in with all he has. Make Povetkin pay when he tries to step inside. His gameplan is straight forward, don't let Povetkin close by smashing him in the face with a proper jab, hold his ground and measure him for the right hand bomb. This is a fight that Price has the tools to win but understandably nobody has any faith in him.

Price and his team would be wise to seek some help from a hypnotherapist or sports psychologist because 'belief' or the lack of it has been his biggest problem. He's got chin and stamina issues, but his lack of confidence has seen him fight with dread which has made it worse and seen him fight like he's waiting for the axe to drop. He needs to work on his conditioning and get help to believe in himself.

If he comes out and does himself justice but comes up short then he can rest easy and with no regret, but if he comes out pawing the jab and doesn't give it a genuine go, then he'll kick himself. Last chance saloon, I just hope he gives his genuine best. Its a great opportunity for him.

have perspective though, ppl say povetkin looked bad, but that was in last time shutting out a guy who ko'd price.

also price looked a sad shell vs sokolowski. flustered and getting his face turned red even at that level.

if pov vs price were made id be thinking someone perversly wanted to further prices humiliation . the mans had enough of the demeaning stoppage lossess

Price is morphing into Audley, from that look of abject fear when an opponent jabs to a career ending in frequently getting hammered.

Eddie wil have to resurrect Pricefighter to save him. For another getting-KTFO-ed payday.

Still I'll be watching!
