ENJOY! this is sonny listons greatest hits!
liston is one of the best heavyweights of all time head to head. he was almost the perfect heavyweight at his peak. he had perfect sizew 6'1 212lb with musle proportions that were off the charts including 15" fists and incredible 84" reach. liston had a hammer like jab, maybe the best in heavyweight history. at listons peak, he had good speed and could cut off the ring nicely. listons boxing skills were excellent and he had good head movement and blocking techniques on defense. liston was also one of the greatest punchers of all time. he had a left hook marciano called "the greatest i have ever seen" and a club for a right hand which he would use to batter opponents. liston threw accuract deadly combinations and had a great body attack and killer uppercut. liston was also an exccellent inside fighter despite his long arms.
I think sonny is one of the best looking fighters on film and would beat most heavyweights in history
Sonny Liston one of the greatest

mid 1950s? liston didnt even become a top 10 contender until 1958 when he returned from a 1 year layoff due to jail.Syntax Error wrote:I've always thought that if he had got a shot at the title in the mid 50's, he may have held the title longer than Joe Louis.
There was only Ali who would have stopped him & that wasn't until the mid 1960's.
before liston went to prison, he was nowhere near in line for a title shot. he wanst even a top 30 contender in the world. he had lost to marty marshall and though he beat marshall, he hadnt fought any world class fighters certainly no one at the top level of the heavyweight division.
liston was not ready in 1955-56, if he had fought marciano then, marciano would have knocked out the green sonny.
however the 1958 liston was a beast and was very much ready.
its safe to say liston should have been champ in 1958, but not anytime sooner.

Fair points, I can't argue with that.BrocktonBlockbuster49 wrote:mid 1950s? liston didnt even become a top 10 contender until 1958 when he returned from a 1 year layoff due to jail.Syntax Error wrote:I've always thought that if he had got a shot at the title in the mid 50's, he may have held the title longer than Joe Louis.
