International Boxing Organization Titles

Post by LeeSanders »

Hello my friends.
First of all, sorry about my poor english writing, my posts will always be short because i'm not very versed. But i think i can undestand the basic idea when the guys who knows throws it on a phrase.
I appreciate users who writes frankly and helps us learn a bit more without using some stupid disqualifier words, but everyone is invited.

I want to know what do you think about this sanctioning body mentioned in the title.
Seems to have a few great boxers holding some of his titles like Joshua, Eubank Jr, Golovkin or Lara. And they ussualy bring the belts up the ring when fight.

Any opinions are welcome.
Thanks!

IBO titles are respectable because of the fighters you mention. I think less is more. Only have better fighters have them and take the loss from not sanctioning second rate fighters.

Wasn't Hatton v Tszyu for an IBO bauble? I don't think anyone sees it as a legitimate world title do they?

Have a look at the IBO title fight criteria, and you will soon understand that it is a "businessman" world title, often used by B grade world class fighters to lure 'name' fighters to their shaws to make money.

Australian Danny Green is the prime example.

Green loved the IBO and they were happy to let him hold fights at Dannyweight; ie: whichever weight suited Green over his opponent...

At the start of 2017, the IBO carried no credibility , due to the following reasons:
• 79% of the IBO’s champions earned their belt by competing for the vacant title.
• 50% of the IBO champions are not rated in ESPN or Ring’s top ten divisional rankings, with 72% of those titleholders being South African.
• In 43% of the IBO’s most recent vacant world title fights, at least one of the competitors were allowed to compete for the belt despite failing to win their previous outing.

The above stats don’t seem to have changed much.

For instance: here’s a list of some of their current champions that are completely anonymous to me:

Cruiserweight: Kevin Lerena (South Africa)
Lightweight: Emmanuel Tagoe (Ghana)
Super Featherweight: Shavkat Rakhimov (Russia)
Super Flyweight: Gideon Buthelezi (South Africa)
Minimumweight: Simphiwe Khonco (South Africa)

Chris Eubank Jr. is the only fighter amongst their roster of so-called “world champions” that actually captured their world title from an existing IBO champion, since the other eight titleholders merely competed for vacant titles! :o

Therefore, the IBO still has no credibility whatsoever!

agree, ppl who support the ibo will cherry pick top fighters with the belt, but the ibo has some absolute crap champs more often than the other abc bodies, those champs are even crappier than the weak titilists from other orgs, and the ibo are hugely biased to south africans and aussies even though not many top fighters come from there
