Adam Kownacki vs. Iago Kiladze

Post by Ilya Muromets »

Adam Kownacki put up with a tough and aggressive challenger in Iago Kiladze for 6 rounds in a back-and-forth action-packed heavyweight battle before finally stopping Kiladze in round 6. Kownacki took a heavy right hook flush on the nose and began bleeding in round 1. Kiladze grew in confidence and began trading with Kownacki although showed little head movement and took too many unnecessary counter punches.
Kiladze used the ring to force Kownacki to chase him down in the second round in an attempt to slow down his opponent while getting off some heavy-handed body combinations.
By the end of the third round, Kownacki’s face resembled a war zone with a cut appearing near his right eye and blood running from his nose. Kiladze stepped off the pedal to force Kownacki to exert more energy chasing him down much to the anger of those in attendance.
Kownacki turned the fight around and knocked down Kiladze in round 4 with a sharp inside right hook. Kiladze got complacent and paid the price. Round 6 brought out a faded and fatigued Kiladze as he was unable to land anything meaningful and was being tagged by nearly every shot Kownacki threw. After an uppercut stunned him, Kownacki followed up with a sharp right hook again that floored Kiladze. The ringside doctor had seen enough and stopped the fight even though Kiladze beat the count. Official time of the stoppage was 2:48 in round 6. Adam Kownacki is now 17-0, 14 KOs while Iago Kiladze is 26-2, 18 KO.

Kiladze has tried to utilize the correct strategy, but has failed. Not enough skills, no guts. And Kownacki was just walking and slugging. It looks like, that it won't be too hard to outbox him for some top competitors.

Kownacki is eating way too many punches. I can't see him winning against anyone good.

Worse version of Andy Ruiz Jr.

Kownacki has no defence but stone chin
he threw more than 70 punches in 3 or 4 rounds, it's a great number
i can see him beating the likes of Whyte, Hammer or Duhaupas, imo an underdog vs Whyte or Duhaupas, but im pretty sure he beats Hammer
but if he does not improves his defence he would be kind of HW Fonfara or Wolak. his prime would be very short if he eats that much punches

Kiladze is chinny and gassed out quick, but in first 2 rounds he showed some skills and speed, he was sharp
i think he could beat the previous opponent of Kownacki, Artur Szpilka
his weight was 118kg, way too much, for Szpilka his weight was 110kg when he was preparing with diet specialist Chycki that also works with Adamek, next he possibly fights in Poland, i hope he loses weight again
i would like to see him vs Izu Ugonoh (but in may he very likely faces Wach on Warsaw national stadium of 56000 seats in a big event but the main event is actually a freak fight, also on this event Rafal Jackiewicz makes his farewell and he will fight in both boxing mma and kickboxing in one night)

The idiot endlessly babbling English language commentators are why I much prefer to watch fights in foreign languages that I don't understand. Kow's stock went down some in this fight tho way up in the Szpilka fight. He shouldn't be putting back on weight, 18 pounds. he was once over 300. Trim down and improve his defense and he could be championship material. He made much quicker work of a common opponent, Spilka, than did Wilder.

Let's face it, Kownacki is never going to be top tier. But so what. He throws a lot of punches, is entertaining to watch and seeing that the HW division is so thin, he has a chance to beat quite a few pretenders who are lurking in the top #6-#20.
He gets hit way too much, offence as defence only works so far up the ladder. I just want to see who can knock him out. His chin is unquestionably decent, and I await the KO. Meantime, I will enjoy watching him.
Ruiez Jr is who I want to see him face next. Two fast hand, high volume HW's who look like Mr Blobby.

When I searched "Mr Blobby Boxing" for that picture, a picture of Kownacki came up as well

Trimming down is doable. It just takes will power. Don't eat all the pirogis on your plate. You can learn how to have a better defense. That's doable. But punching like he does is something you cannot learn and neither is taking a punch like he does.

this fights just prove that it's his nature - he throws a lot and eats a lot (both food and punches)

I have seen Kownacki fight many times in person. This was the best shape I have seen him in believe it or not. He has gotten better every fight. I think he used to be roommates and training partners with Jarrell big baby Miller but is on his own now.

I like Kownacki, he's an entertaining fighter. Throws a lot, is accurate, clearly has power and a chin (which many in this division lack).

He will be limited to 20-30 in the rankings though. He's clearly got poor conditioning (although his punch volume for round 1-6 is good), has awful feet (the way he just walks around the ring, and kind of slowly lunges in), and doesn't really have a game plan when he's in there, other than punch the sh*t out of the other guy.

It'll be interesting to see how he gets on. I will be watching with interest.
