Lucas Matthysse vs Tewa Kiram

For the vacant WBA "Ordinary" belt on B-Nation this weekend, this fight is actually top of the bill on the Linares card for some strange reason, going by the KO ratio of both men I doubt this goes the distance, Matthysse is looking a bit vulnerable these days, quit against Postol, down a few times against Molina Jr and Garcia so if Kiram hits as hard as his record suggests and is as durable as most Asian boxers(he's Thai) then it could be an interesting scrap

Not much on Kiram's record, he has a points win over former SLW champ Mabuza and he KO'd Fernando Castaneda in a round, Castaneda went 5 with Buglioni and 3 with Burton and just went the distance with Monaghan so that's a bit of a jump from 140 to 175

Despite the shitty belt on the line which taints any fight I think this might be a tasty scrap and despite never having heard or seen Kiram before I think he might KO Matthysse late on

He's coming in here off a KO win over former Broner victim Emmanuel Taylor who'd never been stopped before so he's still got something left i'd imagine

I'm picking Kiram to win this. Matthysse, a 35 year old former Light Welter, has had a single fight at Welter, and though he looked impressive in that, Taylor was made for him and I think that might be a bit of a mirage. How many fighters, especially punchers, continue to have success at 35 years old and at a division above where they spent the majority of their career? Add in the fact that he's also had some tough fights (including against Postol where he effectively quit), and Kiram looks superb value at 7/1. Also note Kiram has been fighting since he was 15 years old, had over 100 Muay Thai before turning pro, is a very active 25 year old career Welter with a 38-0 (28 KO's) record (albeit against lower level domestic Thai opposition), who has reportedly worked with Pacquaio for two of his previous training camps. Matthysse looks a vulnerable fighter to me.

I thought he looked pretty good in the Taylor fight. Don't know much about this Thai dude. Good record at first glance but there isn't many names I know on his slate. I meant to start a thread the other day about this fight and to see if anyone knew much about the Thai fella but it slipped my mind.

I'll go for Matthysse by KO but only because I don't know anything about Kiram and the fact he's never fought outside Thailand.

A solid puncher (his KO against Vladimir Baez/Destino Japan was pretty neat and Baez is expexted to win the JBC title at 140 later this year) with decent boxing skills. He's been in a shed load of PABA title bouts (12 rounders) is young, naturally big (you rarely see a Thai look small for their weight anyway).

Teerachai hasn't really been chin checked too much (but was dropped by a huge hook from Nabiev like...5 years ago).

If Matthysse is 90% of what he was...he wins...anything less and Teerachai has a REALLY GOOD chance

After reading you lot's posts, I fear my opinion is rather out there.
I think Lucas is on a roll.
I think, like Groves, he is going to be 3rd time lucky and get a belt. And by jingo he deserves it.
He still carry's power and has a world of experience, and most of all, he is motivated.
Sure he got KO'ed by Postol, but he was not overwhelmed.

Don't forget, there is only one guy who beat Postol, and had to go the distance to do it

Kratingdaenggym is what it is abd it's a punt, even at 6/1 it's still worth a shot as LM might be shopworn, it's a question of what lucas has left vs how good the thai's chin is in this one, the longer it goes the more I will favour Kratingdaenggym. I'm personally looking forward to it as it will answer questions about both fighters.

Pretty dull fight up until the KO, I had Kiram in front by a few rounds before the end, Matthysse was trying but he was eating jabs all night, Kiram had an excellent jab, he was winning rounds with it alone, it was thudding and he was busy with it, I just would've liked to have seen him throw the right hand more often, even if just to make Matthysse think twice about marching forward

Matthysse again though showing his power is a great equaliser, great 1/2 to put Kiram down for the first time and to finish him off with a jab shows Matthysse can carry his power up with him

I honestly thought Kiram put on a jabbing clinic, to win rounds with one shot you have to be busy and he was, it was strong and accurate, can't believe people would give Matthysse rounds just for walking forward

It was a bit dull and Kiram paid the price for not giving Matthysse something more to think about

The ending was odd though, I've seen guys stopped before on a jab but that was a shock, it looked dodgy on the replay but in normal speed it did look hurtful TBF
