Re: Chin rank it ... Errol Spence
Took some full shots from Brook and although Brook was depleted at the weight he can still bang. Jury is still out but he looks solid enough all round.
Re: Chin rank it ... Errol Spence
Going more off his style and demeanour rather than proof of him taking big shots, but he seems to carry himself like someone who has confidence in his ability to take a punch. As Stuarty said, Brook could punch and Spence had no problem with that power. Brook might actually be the biggest puncher at 147 aside from Spence himself. Thurman had that reputation coming up but hasn't knocked anyone out in 4 years.
Spence is a big guy for the weight so I think the true test of his chin will be when he goes to 154 and maybe 160.

I don't think Brook is. What top fighter did he even hurt or stopped?ElJefe wrote: ↑25 Jan 2018, 10:59 Going more off his style and demeanour rather than proof of him taking big shots, but he seems to carry himself like someone who has confidence in his ability to take a punch. Re: Chin rank it ... Errol Spence
Any information on how heavy Spence is in a ring?
Re: Chin rank it ... Errol Spence
I mean we still can't say for sure because he still hasn't faced a real massive puncher or taken a full blooded shot flush on the chin, but in the Brook and Peterson fights he at least showed that his chin certainly isn't glass because he took some good enough shots that if he had a weak jaw he'd have been stunned.

Re: Chin rank it ... Errol Spence
My guess 165ish. No way he merely puts 13lbs on IMO
Re: Chin rank it ... Errol Spence
It's hard to rank, since he hasn't faced a murderous puncher. As stated above, he fights as someone that isn't overly concerned with taking a shot. Factoring in that and what I've seen, I'd say an 8. 6.5 seems low, even with the insufficient evidence we have.
Re: Chin rank it ... Errol Spence
he was hurt only once that i know of and that was early on in his career. seems solid
Re: Chin rank it ... Errol Spence
Nobody to be fair, but you could say that about pretty much everyone at 147. None of them are proven punchers at the top level. Thurman, Garcia, Porter, Manny etc. None of them have standout one power against other top class welters.IKSRTFO wrote: ↑25 Jan 2018, 11:04I don't think Brook is. Re: Chin rank it ... Errol Spence
He's never been knocked down to my knowledge.
So although he hasn't faced a murderers row of welterweights, I'll give Spence a 10 based upon his chin never having failed him.
How can you give him a low score of 6.5? Has he been down, badly hurt or KO'd?
Of course future events can alter my opinion of Spence's chin.
Another one-time welterweight wunderkind, Donald Curry, seemed to have a very solid chin (only suffering a flash knockdown to rugged Korean Jun-suk Hwang) until he had the misfortune of being exposed by Honeyghan.
Today few of us would rate Curry's jaw highly.
We'll eventually see how well Spence's chin weathers the shots of a steady stream of high calibre fighters.
Until then, his chin appears as solid as his record.

Re: Chin rank it ... Errol Spence
if 10 is great i cant give him a 10 when a journeyman hurt him
seems strange to default ppl with 'great'

Re: Chin rank it ... Errol Spence
That's a good argument, yes. I just can't see how everyone was rating Brook's power like it was something to marvel at. He's at the level with the rest of the guys you were mentioning.ElJefe wrote: ↑25 Jan 2018, 15:51Nobody to be fair, but you could say that about pretty much everyone at 147. Re: Chin rank it ... Errol Spence
I would say that is about right. I believe he has to weigh no more than 157 the morning of the fight due to IBF rules, so rehydrating to about 165 is believable. He mentioned before he fought Brook he walks around in the 170's, about the same as Brook.

Egidijus Kavaliauskas is the biggest puncher at 147.

Re: Chin rank it ... Errol Spence
obviously its pure guesswork, but you get an idea of a dude thats 'big at the weight' and nowadays, adding 13lbs after wigh-in for a welter is not that big.Badhusker wrote: ↑25 Jan 2018, 18:33I would say that is about right. Re: Chin rank it ... Errol Spence
Haven't really watched him much so I'd have to see him stop or hurt a decent fighter to give him that title to be fair. Avanesyan is a step up.Mexi-Box wrote: ↑26 Jan 2018, 20:58Neither are.ElJefe wrote: ↑25 Jan 2018, 10:59 Going more off his style and demeanour rather than proof of him taking big shots, but he seems to carry himself like someone who has confidence in his ability to take a punch. Spence is a beast. Whats with the chin ranking? Damn, yinz are a tough crowd. Let the kid get in a tough fight before yinz start anking his chin.... OY Vey
Re: Chin rank it ... Errol Spence
The truth is we really don't know. Brook isn't the monster of a puncher that many make him out to be. The same sparring sessions that people say Spence trouble Floyd, there are also rumors that Floyd rocked Spence badly in the last session.
