How many of the current heavyweights could make 175?

I think quite a lot. You can carry a lot of fat and still have somewhat visible musculature, if you have the muscle.

A lot aren't that much over 6 feet, and their heights may be inflated.

mike perez was about 6 feet and at cruiser looked about as ripped as he could be. even for the shorter softer guys i think 175 would often be hard. but someone like ruiz i think could do it....hes loaded with fat.

I can't think of too many Heavies that are built like that anymore. Andy Ruiz could certainly be a Cruiserweight if he got in shape, I don't know about Light Heavyweight.

Off hand I can't think of any Heavyweights I could see making 175 and doing well.

Generally if they were gonna be able to make 175 they would've started out there. It's very rare to see Heavyweights move down in weight. It happens, but not too often.

I think there's a few a good bit fleshier than he was., especially as you go down the levels.

Similar to Andy Ruiz. I could see him making Cruisereweight maybe, but not Light Heavy.

Nothing Arreola could do to revitalize his career at this point anyway. It's not a weight issue at this point for him, he's just pretty much washed up at this point. He wouldn't be ranked in the Top 25 at Heavyweight anymore.

Arreola won the Golden Gloves or something at light heavyweight before he turned pro. There used to be a video of him fighting at the weight on youtube somewhere. very odd looking.

Has anybody mentioned Tony Bellend? Looking at him now and then looking at his LHW career he does look horribly drained. But then even at cruiserweight he looked fat and it irritates me when people have him in top ten British heavyweight list. He's not a heavyweight. It does my nut in.

I remember somebody on one of the forums, around 2009, posted that Bernard Hopkins and Ruslan Chagaev had both trained at his gym and, while Chagev was noted to not be a particularly big guy at all, Hopkins was "massive."

how old was arreola when he won that? wouldve been at 178 too. going by how he looked at 229 i really doubt he couldve lost about 40 pounds to drain down from 190 and consistantly make 175 as a developed pro

Loads of heavyweights could make cruiserweight, but very few could make 175lb. Chris Byrd could have more comfortably earlier in his career, but he did it when he was too old and it drained him. Adamek started at light heavyweight, but was quite drained at that weight, but he was a smallish cruiserweight and a tiny heavyweight. Eddie Chambers still had some pudge at cruiserweight, so I think he could have made 175lb, though he probably would have been a little drained. Perez would have to lose some muscle, I don't see him making 175lb. Tarver eventually fought at heavyweight and was always a huge light heavyweight, I actually think cruiserweight was probably the division his body was most suited to. Steve Cunningham probably could have made 175lb, though he also would have been drained. Andy Ruiz could certainly be a cruiserweight if he lost the flab, not sure about light heavyweight. Chagaev and Povetkin could have made cruiserweight, but not light heavyweight.

Whoever said Deontay Wilder is on crack - he is lean and ripped at 225lb and probably could make 200lb without it affecting his performance, let alone 25lb less!

Started at 238 and had the lowest weight of 178.

Going down that much weight ruined hes punch resistance. The guy had really sturdy beard. Ate punches for breakfast. Went full 12 with Masternak despite loosing every round

Went 9 rounds with Chakhkiev before finally taking the knee to bow out of the mismatch.

He was KO'd in round 2 by Serhiy Demchenko when he was fighting at light heavy.

I think most of the heavies could make CW but none of them would be any good if they went all the way down to 175.

I would not say he was small. But he certainly was not big either. I bet he would look small if he was standing next to Usyk for example.

I don't think any of them could. They all have a different frame. Several, though, can make CW. I think a better question would be how many LHW's can make HW and be effective. I'd say Beterbiev and Kovalev are probably the only two that I can imagine being effective at HW.

I agree No one. No one certainly in the top 100 could lose that much weight. Probably very few cruisers can drop a weight.
