WBA World Champion Erislandy Lara (25-2-2, 14 KOs) and IBF World Champion Jarrett Hurd (21-0, 15 KOs) will meet to unify titles in a defining moment for the 154-pound division. In 2017, SHOWTIME televised eight matchups featuring all of the top-five ranked super welterweight champions and challengers in an unofficial tournament. This unification match will pit the technical wizardry of Cuba’s Lara against the strength and determination of Hurd.

I hope Hurd can catch him. Lara will run as much as he did with Canelo.

This should be for The Ring Magazine and Lineal title IMO..

Lara is ranked #1 with Ring and #2 with TBRB, whilst Hurd is ranked # 3 with both orgs.

I think usually with the TBRB, it has to be #1 vs. #2 but i'm not too sure with that. If that's the case, it would have to be Lara vs. Jermell.

dont agree. imo charlos still too good and too much of a presence for one of these guys to be deemed the absolute kingpin of 154. btw when did 1 vs 3 creep into lineal discussion?

I explained I believe with lineal it is 1 vs. 2

Ring is usually any two in the top 5 ..

I think it's the best to what we've got at the moment. Yes, some will think differently, but they have a panel of hundreds. They were established after Golden Boy bought Ring.

I like to watch Hurd, but this doesn't seem a wise fight to take. Lara has too much movement and speed. Will be interesting.

I took Hurd in this one. I feel the size advantage will be a key factor. I'm even thinking Hurd might corner Lara and land some bombs. Lara should know that unlike Canello, Hurd is more than willing to go toe to toe, he clearly proved that in his last 2 fights (Tony Harrison, Austin Trout TKO's),

Styles makes fights and i think Hurd will beat Lara. Hurd defense is very poor but he is strong and definitely can take a punch of Laras caliber. He will walk down Lara IMO. Power punching counterpuncher like Alvarez or Charlo will be a far bigger problem for Jarret. I like him a lot :box: :box: :box: I can´t stand Lara, i will root for Hurd even more :D :D :D

FFS, Hurd is enormous. How this man makes 154 lbs. is a mystery to all of science. He looked like a damn LHW in the ring.

Lara will beat Hurd easily. Hurd is so one dimensional and really not a big puncher. He was getting schooled bad against Trout before Trout gassed out. Target practice for Lara en route to a whitewash decision.

Hurd doesn't even cut off the ring well, he's slow of hand and foot. The only thing that helps him see the final bell is that he can take a hell of a shot. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Lara scores a late round TKO though.

I think that is why myself, and quite a few others voted Lara decision.
Lara's size only matters if he can't get in and out before Hurd can counter after taking a couple of shots from Lara. I think Lara can do that and get the decision on what will likely be a bit of a snoozer

Pretty good opinions here that even I agree with except the one’s saying they don’t like this fight. We’ve got two champs facing off boys with Charlo taking on the winner. That’s what should happen in every division. Come on now. Embrace it

Good fight. I have Lara out-boxing Hurd. I hope Jermell's next fight is vs Sulecki.

Hurd is big, about the same size as Andrade, but less skilled imo. Lara will probably run around and win an ugly close decision.

This one has split decision written all over it.

I'm not sure yet which one walks away with the belts.

Lara is expected to open as a slim betting favorite.

Julian "J-Rock'' Williams and Nathaniel Gallimore, two young, skilled contenders in the stacked 154-pound division, will clash in a 12-round world title eliminator on Saturday, April 7 live on SHOWTIME from the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas and presented by Premier Boxing Champions.

The SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING main event will see Erislandy Lara, the longest reigning world champion at 154-pounds, clash with undefeated champion Jarrett Hurd in a highly anticipated 154-pound world title unification bout. The three-fight telecast begins at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT and features Caleb Truax making the first defense of his 168-pound title against James DeGale in a rematch of their exciting first bout in December.

Williams and Gallimore will look to put themselves into the mandatory position for the IBF Junior Middleweight World Title currently held by Hurd.

He's not done much to warrant top 10.. Who outside the top 10 would you put in the list.
