Spence-Peterson Peaked at 695K Viewers, Averaged 637K on SHO

More than twice as many viewers watched Errol Spence Jr.’s most recent fight on Showtime than his previous appearance on the network.

Ratings released Tuesday by Nielsen Media Research indicate Spence’s convincing victory over Lamont Peterson was watched by a peak audience of 695,000 on Saturday night. The Spence-Peterson fight, which Spence won by technical knockout, drew an average audience of 637,000.

The opener of Showtime’s doubleheader Saturday night – Robert Easter Jr.’s split-decision defeat of Javier Fortuna in a 12-round lightweight fight – attracted a peak audience of 540,000. An average of 462,000 viewers watched Easter’s narrow win against Fortuna.

Even more impressive that it was up against a major UFC PPV card with both the HW & LH belts at stake.

Very rare that UFC has a doubleheader with title bouts in its 2 LARGEST weight classes!! (If ever)

Holy crap, I had no idea how poor the viewership was for Spence Jr. vs. Kell Brook. That's some sad numbers for a high-profile WW fight. PBC is absolute garbage. These dudes should be getting more viewers than some scrub 600K viewers. Also, UFC fights don't correlate with poor viewership numbers. Lomachenko still did 1.7 million going against UFC, Bellator, and Salido/Roman.

But Lomachenko was in a highly hyped fight (at least highly hyped for a week by ESPN) and it was on basic cable.

Spence's less anticipated bout with Peterson was broadcast on SHOWTIME, a premium pay cable network which has quite a few fewer viewers than ESPN.

Holy crap, I had no idea how poor the viewership was for Spence Jr. vs. Kell Brook. That's some sad numbers for a high-profile WW fight.

Showtime showed it in the late afternoon. It's around the same number Joshua does on Showtime too because again it's shown in the late afternoon.

My post was more about people saying "...this fight still did good even going head-to-head with UFC." I don't think UFC and boxing ever cross fans so much that you can blame poor viewership on that. Now, high-profile games are something different. Broner does 800K on Showtime.
