The rancid WBC & WBA!

Post by Enlightened-One »

This piece of news slipped under the radar for me, so apologies if you already know about this…

It was announced a few days ago that Miguel Berchelt will defend his WBC junior lightweight title against Carlo Magali, who is rated 39th by the WBC, has only won four of his last seven bouts and as far as I can tell, has never defeated a world-rated opponent. :o

Can anyone explain the WBC’s reasons for sanctioning this bout?

Also, why does the WBA rate Fres Oquendo as their second best heavyweight title challenger, considering he hasn’t won a fight for almost four years?

Cristian Mijares backed-out of the fight with something like 17 days notice. They obviously struggled to find a late replacement and keep the same date. Although, it's not easy to understand how they had to go that far down the rankings. Either 38 people turned them down, or they were like "f*ck it, everyone's turning us down. Just call someone who you know will take it."

They're legally obliged to, because they lost a lawsuit. You know this. I'm sure it makes them sick that they have to rank Oquendo that highly.
