Fury Stripped of Ring Belt, Joshua-Parker Rejected To Fight For It

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

It was officially announced that Tyson Fury was stripped of his Ring Magazine title for failing to schedule a fight by a deadline of January 31.

"The Ring would like to make it clear that this decision had not been taken lightly. The Ring championship belt is the closest representation to a lineal champion in the sport today, and Tyson Fury was extremely proud to be part of our heavyweight history," the magazine said in a statement.

'We deeply regret separating from the lineal championship and we would hope that fans appreciate our reasons for giving Tyson every opportunity over the past two years. We wish our former champion the very best for the future and we will be happy to re-rank him when appropriate."

Ring also rejected the possibility of the vacant title being at stake in the upcoming heavyweight unification between Anthony Joshua and Joseph Parker - which takes place for the WBO, IBF, IBO, WBA world titles on March 31 in Cardiff.

It appears that the vacant title would only be at stake when the Joshua-Parker winner collides with WBC champion Deontay Wilder (or Luis Ortiz if he wins on March 3).

"There have been occasions when a vacant Ring championship has been contested between No 1 and No 3 rated contenders," the magazine stated.

"However, after careful consideration, we do not feel Joshua-Parker qualifies. At this time, The Ring ratings panel unanimously believe that Deontay Wilder is the second-best heavyweight in the world on merit."

This will mark the end of Fury- I find it highly unlikely he will fight again.

I think he will fight at least once. Im guessing he will fight someone weve never heard of, unless someone like David Price. I cant imagine Fury will fight someone ranked in the top 10 first fight back. After this initial come back fight anything could happen and I wouldnt be surprised Fury walking away with another issue in his life.

And mine.

You can't have a lineal champion who never fights. They gave him long enough to make a comeback. He didn't.

The worst heavyweight championship reign in the history of boxing. Tragic in a way.

He'll fight again. He tweeted already saying he respected their decision.

Not worse title holder as such, but maybe worse Lineal champion. Some lost in the first defence but at least they put it on the line. What a shame and shite legacy he MAY leave, worse lineal heavyweight champion in history.

Someone here or the other thread said he will never get the lineal / ring belt back but that seems off as it will be easy to get a shot at it. AJ, Parker, Oritz or WIlder will have it by years end and if Fury has a winning comeback, he will contest it almost certainly and he has a big chance of coming out victorious.

Why would he apologise for making a prediction that didn't come true? And apologise to who? Fury? Doubt he cares. Or you? The oracle of all thing Tyson Fury predictions, having imparted your wisdom to all of the boxrec forum community, thus, are offended by inaccurate predictions from those who can't literally look in to the future, hence the need for predictions, as time travel hasn't yet been achieved

Oh I don't mean worst in terms of ability, (albeit that seems wildly overrated by some.)

But it's certainly the worst reign in terms of action. Never defended once. Got fat. Took drugs. Got banned. Got stripped. It's been as terrible as it could possibly be really.

good decision on both counts. the ring has been too quick to accept 1 vs 3 in the past, like they did with crolla-linares when #2 at the time garcia had already flattened zlaticanin and looked on another level. parker in reality isnt even top 5 imo.

it was very generous to fury for him to have the title as long as he did

You must be a sensitive chap. I imagine the vast majority of this forum wouldn't expect an apology over something so trivial.

Horse - can you at least acknowledge it is reasonable for The Ring to decide this? Of course, we expect Fury to be in your British ratings for at least another 5 years, irrespective of whether he fights.

I think they made a good call on both.

Don't get why Fury didn't announce a fight, they knew the date was coming so surely they could have found someone

They needed an opponent that was at least knocking on the door of the top five. No point racing to get someone like Sexton signed up when he'll lose the belt regardless.
