I have a book called "Workouts from Boxing's Greatest Champs" by Gary Todd.

If it's still in print, I think it would be a good start.

Honestly, Use boxing as a focus but don't think it has to be the be all and end all of your life. Letting it take over could mean you miss out on other opportunities in life.

If you are serious about wanting to turn pro, my advice is to trust your coaches. If they know what they are talking about then they'll guide you in the way they feel is best, if you've got no amateur back ground it'll be harder but they'll help make up for that by guiding you in your fights and helping you develop before you turn pro.

The other options available are numerous now, if not Boxing, there is kickboxing, K1 or Muay Thai to build your experience in stand up striking sports or even grappling and MMA to get yourself the experience you need to succeed in combat sports.

An important part is great nutrition as a base for building strength and conditioning.

Eat 3 very well balanced meals at the exact same times every day.. Eat slow cooked, grass fed meats, generally lean beef, but you may like mutton, lamb, ram, venison, buffalo, chicken, duck, pheasant, turkey, shredded beef recipes are good... Eat a lot of raw veggies and greens in salads and a variety of lightly cooked vegetables with your meat… learn a lot of slow cooker recipes… Only eat whole grains. No pasta or so-called “whole wheat bread”… Oatmeal, brown rice, sprouted grain bread, corn on the cobb etc.. Don’t eat anything made with flour. Stay away from processed foods except for sprouted grain bread, tomato sauce in glass jars not cans for bean sauce, basic whole oats oatmeal, dark chocolate, whole milk, and cheddar cheese or goat cheese… Work beans, lentils, nuts, and seeds into your diet.

Nutrition can separate you from other boxers if you learn how to cook and shop for healthy food. People eat on the go and eat and run today. Sit and eat your meals.

Sleeping is also very important for conditioning and strength. Make sure you get 8 hours at a consistent time.

If you want a really powerful and finished looking boxer’s physique, do body weight exercises for a year before working weight lifting into your routine.. Push ups, chin ups, sit ups, back extensions, lunges, plyometric exercises and bar work.. Look at youtube barstarzz videos to get body weight exercise techniques. Your strength training workout is something you do in addition to running and your regular gym workout which includes rope skipping… shadow boxing… speed, double-end, and heavy bags… focus pads... and sparring... Finding a great boxing coach is extremely important and will make a massive difference.

If anywhere near beach, jogging on sand will also do you a world of good. It'll most certainly test your fitness & strength ;-)

But you don't want to run on soft beach sand unless you're a beach volleyball player... Cuz it will actually slow you down.. It will build your stamina, but you want stamina AND very fast feet.

You want a fast but forgiving surface like grass or a running track... Something you can track a real good mileage time on, but isn't hard on your feet, knees, or hips like asphalt is... Run for 30 minutes and slowly build your distance up to 5 miles... Or start with 5 miles and slowly work your time down to 30 minutes... You might want to do 5 miles 3 days a week... And wind sprints on 3 alternative days - working up to 15 sprints of 100 meters at 95% full blast... Count your strides and stopwatch your speed... Your times and strides per second will get a lot better... But not day-to-day or even week-to-week... Usually month-to-month you may see some gains .... Rest for 60 seconds between each sprint, just like between rounds... and don't start with more than you can handle fairly comfortably.. You want to train not strain.. Over-training is the worst -- you end up with injuries... Be patient and disciplined... your gains will come.

You don't NEED to be a pro boxer. :shame:

Just by saying that tells me you are naive about professional boxing. The chances of you making a living out of boxing alone is slim.

You need to be winning national amateur titles to get a top promoter interested in you. Then of course you have to be good enough and sell large amounts of tickets. If you are with a small time manager you'll be a journeyman - cannon fodder for good ticket sellers.

What are you actively doing to get to that? Do you have a coach? Are you at an amateur club?

You don't actually need ANY amateur boxing to be a great professional boxer… You need good natural talent and you need to learn how to box extremely well…

To do that you need a great trainer/coach.. Don’t let any 3rd rate coach start teaching you. You WILL fail. Do research and find the most accomplished coach in your area and target him. Practice your elevator pitch to convince him to train you. But to interest and impress a great trainer you need to get a ripped and powerful physique before you approach him.

It will take you at least a year to build and condition your body for that – and another full year to learn how to box well enough to box 4-rounders.. If you wanted to become an MD or astrophysicist it would take many more years and many more hours a day. Checkout barstarzz workouts on the web to get started.

You need an extremely impressive neck.. shoulders.. back.. torso (obliques, abs, and lower back).. rear end.. and legs.. You need to be ripped.. That will take you a year unless you already workout like a maniac. Run early in the morning at daybreak.. Do strength training in the evening at a weight lifting gym... Don't lift any weight you can't do 5 reps.

If you're a good sprinter and distance runner that will also impress a coach.. Tell him you've been running and working out hard every day and want to be a professional boxer … and want to work with HIM because he’s good…

If he lets you spar before he teaches you for a couple months he’s the wrong guy.. If he puts you into a 4-rounder after you’ve been sparring only 3 months you know he’s the wrong guy. Box as many rounds as you can every day until good boxers aren’t tagging you well. Then you’ll know you’re ready. That will take at least a year. You’ll no doubt win your first few fights easily, but never slack on strength training, conditioning or sparring and think of creative ways to improve.
