That's why I said he was briefly undisputed.... Charles Martins title meant nothing to me. At all. The guy swaggered into The O2 stoned to defend it after literally been given it and then sold it!lillywhite14 wrote: ↑02 Feb 2018, 10:12Tyson did. The WBO meant nothing at all back in his prime days. Infact, the WBO heavyweight title didn’t even exist when Tyson was undisputed champ.mickey1975 wrote: ↑01 Feb 2018, 06:19Ok, I'll accept AJ, Parker, Wilder sorting it out. Forget Charr. Mike Tyson never won them all.
It didn’t gain equal standing with the other three until mid 00’s

Re: Tyson Fury vs. TBA - April 2018
To be fair, it wasn’t like Damiani suddenly became a credible world champion when he won the WBO back in the day. Tyson was undisputed for 6 fights until he lost to Buster. He became undisputed then Evander, then Bowe, then it became muddled.
Charles Martins title was as plastic as you’ll ever see. Even Joshua looked embarrassed after that load of bollocks!
Martin hit the jackpot when he landed that belt. Fair play to him for selling it to the highest bidder!

Yes, Larry Holmes beating WBO Ray Mercer in a non sanctioned fight didn't help - just showed how the boxers considered the WBO - same with Moorer, rather cash in on the big names than defend against Mandatories.lillywhite14 wrote: ↑02 Feb 2018, 10:34 To be fair, it wasn’t like Damiani suddenly became a credible world champion when he won the WBO back in the day. Bowe beat up Herbie Hide for it then basically left it in the ring! He didn’t give a toss about it
Re: Tyson Fury vs. TBA - April 2018
Yeah, he did defend against Jose Luis Gonzalez (I always think about the legendary Glyn Leach when bringing up his name) but not sure why he needed to vacate to fight Holyfield. ... who did the WBO sanction as mandatory.lillywhite14 wrote: ↑02 Feb 2018, 10:49 Bowe beat up Herbie Hide for it then basically left it in the ring!
