Best Chin of all time? Today?
Best Chin of all time? Today?
I’d go wíth LaMotta or Monzon. Monzon lost three fights out of 100, all on points, and although knocked down by Rodrigo Valdes, he got up to win and retired. LaMotta just could take a savage beating.
I couldn’t believe some of the shots that Canelo took against GGG.
Who today have the best chins? Educate me kids..

Considering only fighters active since 2000 - V. Klitschko.jewboypgh wrote: ↑02 Feb 2018, 01:38 I’d go wíth LaMotta or Monzon. Monzon lost three fights out of 100, all on points, and although knocked down by Rodrigo Valdes, he got up to win and retired. LaMotta just could take a savage beating.

Considering active fighters - it might be Parker, as I know, he has never been hurt in his carreer. Anyway, we will know much more about his chin very soon.

Wach is still a shout.

Brandon Rios.
Poor guy has absolutely no discernible defense but still goes out of his way to get hit in the head. It has no effect on his brain.
He loves it.

It is very hard to hit Canelo cleanly. But he definitely can take a punch, same as GGG. Shots which put Khan and Kirkland to sleep, he takes it without problemjewboypgh wrote: ↑02 Feb 2018, 01:38 I’d go wíth LaMotta or Monzon. Re: Best Chin of all time? Today?
As always, Chuvalo has to be high, if not at the top of best chins ever.
Don't forget the Marvelous One, Marvin Hagler, who was only officially dropped by Roldan.
And that was a pretty bogus knockdown. After throwing a punch and missing, Roldan brought his arm back and hooked the back of Hagler's head, pulling him to the canvas.
I think Hagler may have went to court to try and have that knockdown ruling thrown out. At least he talked about doing that.
He was very proud of his history of never having suffered a legitimate knockdown.

Provodnikov is practically inhuman - the beating he took against Matthyse, without any apparent discouragement, was astonishing. The effect is all the more impressive considering how badly he marks up and cuts.
Re: Best Chin of all time? Today?
yes and he absorbed hard hittng john molnas shots just fine too. not even slightly wobbled
compare that to what matthtse and molnas shots did to each other and many others. he unhealthly durable

He probably realized that and wisely retired.

Ricky Burns must have one of the finest chins of all of today's fighters. He's feather-fisted, possesses a porous defence, but somehow manages to go the distance with some real behemoths likes of Crawford, Indongo, Relikh, Figueroa Jr. etc.

Oliver McCall must be up there in terms of all time best chins.

How many times was Toney down?Matt Teague wrote: ↑02 Feb 2018, 19:24 James Toney worth a shout, been in with biggest hitter from middle to heavy
I recall the semi-knockdown against Jones---I believe he was more off balance and got tangled up with his own feet--but I don't remember any others credited with knocking him down.
Re: Best Chin of all time? Today?
sam peter dropped him but there was a huge natural size difference there. think he said peter was the hardest puncher he was in with.
Re: Best Chin of all time? Today?
All time or at least from when I started watching boxing ... Marvin Hagler and James Toney would be right up there for sure.
Today is a bit harder to judge as many of the boxers are still active and anything could happen.
Leo Santa Cruz has taken a lot of big shots and not been stopped he'd be up there.

Re: Best Chin of all time? Today?
It was a legit knockdown. Right on the button and he was wobbly after. Hagler was a good call of yours though. Toney, great chin but he’s also super slippery to land clean on. Golovkin I believe has the best chin today.SenorPipino wrote: ↑02 Feb 2018, 19:47How many times was Toney down?Matt Teague wrote: ↑02 Feb 2018, 19:24 James Toney worth a shout, been in with biggest hitter from middle to heavy

Re: Best Chin of all time? Today?
Provodnikov's defense is his chin. Also, Wach's chin is abnormal. The guy took some horrific punishment from, probably, the hardest hitter the HW division has seen in Wladimir Klitschko.

Re: Best Chin of all time? Today?
We shouldn't overlook the father/son duo of Julio Sr. and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
I believe that Chavez Sr. , who fought for 25 years, was only down twice in his 115 fight career. Those knockdown came in defeats to Randall and Tszyu.
But he fought a host of outstanding fighters in his lengthy career, and no one---including De La Hoya twice and bangers like Rosario and Mayweather--could dent his chin.
His son didn't have his father's talent but inherited his chin.
Junior isn't the hardest guy to hit, but only light heavyweight Fonfara has been able to send him to the canvas.
Notable fighters who have failed to drop Chavez Jr. include Canelo, Andy Lee and Sergio Martinez.
You may not respect the flakey Junior as a professional, but you have to give him credit for having one of boxing's best chins....just like dad.

George Chuvalo, heavyweight, 73-18-2, and he fought the best, and he was never off his feet.
Here he explains his punch resistance. Great interview!

Vitali for me.
That uppercut he took from Lennox would have downed a T-Rex.

Vitali was so great. Look at him, he doesn't even bother to raise up his left hand to protect himself!
Re: Best Chin of all time? Today?
Another vote for Chuvalo who was only stopped by Foreman and Frazier. My first thought was Randall Cobb but it had escaped me that he did actually get stopped once, although I've no idea of the circumstances.
His nemesis was one Dee Collier which doesn't quite have the same impact as Frazier and Foreman when it comes to a plea of mitigation, I guess.
