Have you ever scored a close fight for an Eastern European against somebody from a different region?

I am having hard time to call the winner here. I think both will respect the power of the opponent. It might be quite tentative in the beginning. I think Gassiev is the tougher of the two and has more overall power. Dorticos might be more skilled and has nice snap to the punches.

I am thinking that Dorticos might outbox Gassiev. I am not expecting him to knock him out thou. More of work rate and outpointing affair. Maybe Gassiev lands one of those hooks to the body and it will be short night. Who knows?

Can Dorticos win on points in Russia? At least its not Vegas... Tomorrow will tell :box:
i don't remember any controversial decision in Russia, while i remember lots from USA, Germany, UK etc.
That's mainly because there have been so few international megafights in Russia. Most of the big-name Russian stars (Tszyu, Kovalev, etc) have traditionally fought most of their big fights in US, Germany or (or in Arbachakov's case) Japan.

The only Russian world champs who have fought consistently in Russia are Drozd and Lebedev., so the "jury is still out on that issue."

So you have a relatively small sample size to base it on...let's hold off on generalizing until we've seen more "megafights" like Gassiev-Dorticos in Russia.

Povetkin fights in Russia too though he used to fight in Germany before
but there are lots of big cards in Russia recently, with bouts for intercontinental titles and others similar straps, and even in these bouts i just dont remember any dodgy decision, while seen a lot in other countries, especially Germany of course

the worst decision i have ever seen was in South Africa, Masternag ''losing'' to Muller while the South African was down in two rounds, lost most of rounds (imo 7-3, maybe even 8-2 in rounds) i had it 97-91 Masternak

but going back to Russia, it looks like more fights there just end up by the way of KO, so it could be a reason too

but i agree, maybe Gassiev vs Dorticos will give a clearer answer about judging in Russia (if it even goes to the later rounds)

give over it was super close but i thought espinosa landed a bit more and had aloyan more uncomfortable. im not complaing about the decision its not unfair for aloyan to have won a split

Other than the loss to Wlad, most of Povetkin's biggest fights were in Germany, when he was WBA champ. Since he lost his title vs Wlad he has fought mainly in Russia, but has taken a step down in competition. I think Alex is biding his time for a world title shot and is fighting softies to avoid a loss.

Price, Hammer & Rudenko are far below what Alex should be fighting to EARN a title shot.
