Deceptive Records
Deceptive Records
Which boxer's record looks fantastic, but he is in fact a cack boxer?
Whose record makes him look hopeless, but he is in fact a very dangerous opponent?

Re: Deceptive Records
He's obviously a very, very long way away from being cack, but Calzaghe's record is often brought up in arguments about his legacy, as though spending ten years and fighting nobody better than Robin Reid is some sort of evidence of greatness.
Samson Dutch Boy Gym was always the shout for a fantastic record on paper who fought pretty much nobody of note. Looking him up I see he had a fight where he was called Samson Toyota Thailand.

This bloke impressed me today. He has a losing record but gave Robin Krasniqi hell. Great fight.

Re: Deceptive Records
I remember when they brought Micky Ward over to fight Neary, he had about 10 losses
Re: Deceptive Records
Derrick FIndley - 27-22-1
http://boxrec.com/en/boxer/335060
Darnell Boone - 23-24-4
http://boxrec.com/en/boxer/255010
Findley is much better than his record suggest but Boone is a proper bloody enigma. Only 12 kayoes in 51 bouts but he's stopped Adonis Stevenson in 2 & had Andre Ward on the floor. Also pushed multiple other top (by todays standards) fighters to the limit in distance fights.

Re: Deceptive Records
There's a lot of guys out there with great looking records that have been matched very soft. The thing with those guys is you really don't know just how far below the World Class level they are until someone actually throws them in there with those guys.
A good example was just last night. Habib Ahmed. 22-0-1...great looking record, but he hadn't fought nobody, then he gets a shot at Zurdo Ramirez. As we saw he was hopelessly overmatched, and really had no shot in the fight.

Re: Deceptive Records
Yep. It's not a fool proof system, but a lot of the time if you have a visiting fighter who has a gawdy record, but it's been built against weak opposition, chances are good he's not gonna be particularly formidable.

Not seen his other fights, but this guy despite a pretty awful looking record looked alright vs McGoldrick, not a pretty style, but I think he deserved the win.

Think he only won 5 (without checking).
Who was the argie (I think) light welter (I think) with the ‘impressive’ record with next to no KOs? Cuenca????

robert talarek 20-12-2 but #23 on boxrec. bunch of early losses , including some in uk, but an improved fight on a good win streak and avenging some of his losses. i think i read that before he was working full time and hardly training

Love this bloke. Was thinking of driving up to visit him. See how he's recovering
Re: Deceptive Records
Arnold Gjergjaj 29-0 before Haye.
I think Kamil Sokolowski and Glen Johnson are both better than their records suggests.

Re: Deceptive Records
Tyrone Spong is actually a ver reasonable boxer, but sadly he only fight bums, now once again he's scheduled with some average cruiserweight guy, I'm strongly disappointed in him again.
Werner Kreiskott, heavyweight top 100, despite 19 loses.
Takam, 4 loses, but still a top 10 heavyweight imo.
Chisora, 8 loses, but still a top 30 heavyweight imo.
Joey Abell, 9 loses, but still a top 100 heavyweight imo.

Re: Deceptive Records
Well, I used to really like him actually, but every single time he's fighting guys that have absolutely no chance against him, he's starting to become a Deontay Wilder the 2nd, he even got ranked by the WBC recently.Stuarty wrote: ↑04 Feb 2018, 14:30Spongasdfjkl wrote: ↑04 Feb 2018, 14:26 Tyrone Spong is actually a ver reasonable boxer, but sadly he only fight bums, now once again he's scheduled with some average cruiserweight guy, I'm strongly disappointed in him again.
