Ryan Burnett vs. Yonfrez Parejo - 31 March 2018

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

On the Joshua vs. Parker undercard at Principality Stadium.

After claiming the WBA strap, Burnett had two mandatories due and will now meet Venezuelan Parejo on the undercard of Anthony Joshua’s Heavyweight unification blockbuster against Joseph Parker in the Welsh capital.

Burnett had to vacate the IBF belt after he was also ordered to fulfil a mandatory defence by that governing body, but the unbeaten 25-year-old is focusing only on producing another impressive performance in front of a huge crowd at the Principality Stadium.

“I’m delighted to be added to this show it’s going to be an incredible experience to defend my World title in front of 80,000 in Cardiff,” said Burnett. “I don’t really get involved in the politics but we knew that when we face Zhakiyanov that is was likely we may have to vacate one of the belts because of mandatories but I’ve unified the division and now we move on to new challenges.

“I expect a tough fight against Parejo, our styles should gel for a great fight and I’m looking forward to making another statement on March 31.”

Eddie Hearn had tried to reach an agreement with the IBF's mandatory challenger Emmanuel Rodriguez.

“The IBF called an interim title bout between Rodriguez and Haskins so we proceeded to make the fight with our WBA mandatory Parejo,”
said Burnett’s promoter Eddie Hearn. “Last week we were notified that bout would no longer take place and that Rodriguez team were not willing to negotiate and they called immediate purse bids. Our deal was already in place with Parejo so we will vacate our IBF title and continue to face our WBA mandatory.”

Another fighter forced to relinquish a world title due to political BS between governing bodies. More specifically, BS between the IBF and another governing body yet again.

Looks like he gave Zhakiyanov a tussle.

Hopefully Ryan can do a number on him

It's always the bloody IBF. In their defence they did order an interim bout.. But it was Rodriguez who declined.

So Rodriguez refuses to fight Haskins and Burnett has to give up his hard earned title as a consequence! :brick:

See in this situation, I prefer WBC.. They'll order an interim fight.

I don't understand. Rodriguez would have an easier time beating Haskins and become interim champion. He's then guaranteed a fight with Burnett. Unless Burnett vacates, then Rodriguez becomes full champion..

But now I assume, Rodriguez vs. Haskins will be for the IBF title.

I am confused as to how Parejo is mandatory for Burnett when Ryan holds the WBA 'soopa doopa' title. I thought a WBA 'regular' champ was the automatic mandatory for a 'super' champion. Last time I checked, the WBA do recognise a 'regular' champ at Bantam. His name is Jamie McDonnell.. So why is he not the mandatory?
All comprehensible explanations gratefully received???

Because when you have two champions you can charge two sets of sanctioning fees.

Greed, greed fecking greed.

Indeed but I still thought the planet WBA rulebook decrees that if there is both a 'super' and a 'regular' champion then the latter was automatically the mandatory to the former?

Ive never heard of Parejo before but was looking through his record, no great wins but his losses were against good opposition, a SD to Zhakiyanov and a KO to Hugo Ruiz

Burnett coming off a great wide win over Zhakiyanov in a fight where he chose to fight it out with him rather than box where he could've made things a lot easier, I'm not sure how good Parejo is but I'm confident Burnett beats him comfortably, probably on points which is usually his style these days, i'd like to see Burnett break him down though as opposed to boxing for 12 rounds or slugging for 12, maybe try break him down bit by bit then go for the finish

Pissed off that Burnett had to vacate his IBF though, that's a crock of sh1t

Seems Burnett broke his hand in the 3rd? I still had him winning every round, not a great fight as Burnett done as he pleased, I imagine Parejo is a guy who's used to using his speed to his advantage but he came up against a quicker and sharper boxer in Burnett, I thought he showed real class at times, some nice flurries often finishing with a left after a jab and backhand, good defensively and nice footwork

Backwards step from his recent opponents though
