Hiv

Post by Tommy Gunn »

Doctors, experts, and even people that are involved in boxing said that Tommy was able to fight, as a matter of fact tommy did fight one time when everybody knew that he had HIV, back in 1996 against Marcus Rhode.

HIV cannot be transfer in the ring, and I don't need to go deep, because I don't feel like typing all the reasons... I will tell you one:

Once the virus(when there is a cut), has contact with air and light, in a matter of less than a second, the virus die. Boxers bleed a lot, they have their blood also in their gloves, but again the virus automatically die once it has contact with air. As soon as any cut is open the blood that is being expose would not have any risk of contracting the virus to the other person.

by the way, today he's weight is 240, and he lookes in great shape, it's a matter for him to contact his promoter and friend, Tony Holden, and we willl see him back in the ring. There are levels in his blood that you can't detect the virus, he is healing pretty well, like Magic Johnson.

take care

What utter crap, suppose there is a clash of heads both boxers are cut, the cuts come into contact, thus you have the perfect mechanism to transmit the virus.

contact

Post by Tommy Gunn »

either if there is contact, head with head, there still air in between and that will kill the virus, I know a lot of people desagree, but that's what the doctors said. Otherwise they woudn't allow tommy to fight.

How can there possibly be air in between if the cuts are in contact ! it's direct blood to blood transmission.

Doctors

Post by Tommy Gunn »

those are several doctors that were asked if tommy was able to fight, and also experts on the HIV/AIDS.
Otherwise any boxing commition wouldn't never allow tommy to fight, and he did back in 1996.

I am not informed enough to express an opinion on hiv and fighters...but....the idea that a commission wouldn't let and hiv fighter fight doesn't hold. There are commissions that would give KATHERINE HEPBURN permission to fight.

As for Morrison making a comeback....and I'm not taking the hiv into question here...what would he come back too? He couldn'ty stay in the top rank of fighters then and there's no way he'd be better now, or even as good...and his good wasn't good enough.

on defense of tommy.

Post by Tommy Gunn »

Just remind you, that everybody here will disagree with me, but Tommy is not as bad as people thing.
He fought a lot of tomato cans, because his amateur background wasn't as big as other fighters such as ray mercer, or riddick bowe. What I mean with that, everytime tommy fought people like Mike Acey, Lorenzo Boyd, Dave Jaco and company was a fighting experience for Tommy, because he was more green than any other top heavyweight. I heard from Tommy himself and other boxing people, that back in 1989, Tommy had sparr with Riddick Bowe, the guy who won the silver medal. Tommy pretty much kicked Riddicks ass in 2 rounds, working perfectly on the body, after that Riddick, just made up an excuse that he was having cramp problems. What do I mean with that? well he was much better than what people thing, because they don't know the whole story.
He was very fast and strong heavyweight, noone can desagree with me on that. And had a very explosive left hook. Either Ray Mercer admited that Tommy Morrison was the strongest boxer he ever faced (Look at Mercers carreer record)
He was never on his peak, because he was always learning, he stopped boxing at the age of 26. He was going to fight might tyson after signed with Don King a 3 fight deal for 38 million dollars, 2 first fights were just tune up fights, one agaisnt Arthur Weathers, and the other one a month after that fight so he could get ready for the Tyson fight.

Now, as far as comming back today, I personally don't think it will be the best, but I will love to see him back in the ring, because people like Frank Bruno (40 something) Ray Mercer, Michael Grant, Lou Savarese, even Tyson and Holyfield, still fighting in the heavyweight division, and I woudn't see why tommy coudn't compete against some of those fighters. Tommy today is 34, young for a lot of these fighters.

to bollocks..

Post by Tommy Gunn »

Hey bolloks I might understand your concern of getting infected with the hiv, I mean, who wouldn't be scared! I know.... but there would be some rule changing, if tommy gets back to the ring. Like in the rhode fight, if tommy get's cut, the referee will stop the fight for 1 min, allowing tommy going to his corner so the doctor can stop the cut, if the cut cannot be stopped after the 3 round they will go to the scoring cards, if it's before the 3 round it will be call a NC fight.
Tommy wasn't a big bleeder in the business, in 50 fights he only bleed 2 times, one against Joe Hipp, the fight that tommy broke his two hands, had 26 stiches over his right eye, and broke his jaw from the 2 round.. And one the fight in the 9, by Knocking out Joe Hipp, just a little reminder for those who would ever question Tommy's heart.
and the other time he bleed was in the Lewis fight. But that was pretty much it.

Erm Mr. Gunn stop being very very silly.

HIV is not killed in the air as the virus would thrive in the warm boxing arena. If it was killed in air than there would be no problems with people contracting it from needles or from unprotected sex as there would be that vital "air" to stop it.

On the subject of a Morrison comeback IF he could i believe that he ,ay be able to make some sort of impact on the divsion, considering the amount of Glass-jawed overrated, and old age heavyweight out there!!!

Hiv

Post by Tommy Gunn »

Hey Tyson, at least I know what is HIV and how to avoid it, a lot of people are uneducated of the virus. And about the air thing, was not a thing that I invented, doctors and experts said that. As far as unprotected sex, I don't need to go into details, but that is totally different than getting contracted the virus in the ring '' if you can get contracted in the ring.''

Tommy find me a medical document on the internet that backs your rather foolish and naive arguement and i will publicly apoligise to you. However you will fail to find any medical FACTS that will back up your arguement.

Thats all i have to say on the subject until medical proof gives tommy a leg to stand on.

tommy vs rhode!

Post by Tommy Gunn »

Tyson, go to http://www.tommmymorrison.com read the forum there, tommy usually post in the forum, and told us that he wants to get back. Besides in 1996 he fought in Japan against Marcus Rhode when he had already contratect the virus.
Do you think the boxing commition will allow tommy to fight someone, if they know there is a risk to contract the virus? I don't think so. That's why he fought rhode! why did he stopped? because he was tired of boxing I believe. Now it's seems that he misses the sport, and wants to get back, which I hardly support him, because I know there is no risk.

if we could teleport the original morrison into todays scene, he would do very well i feel.

however, he has been inactive for SEVEN yrs. time has passed him by. he is not george foreman.

his problems with punch resistance and stamina will not have improved.

a good fighter, but that was then this is now.

I agree with you, I we could get the Tommy who beat foreman, or the one who kick mercers ass for 3 rounds, would be champion for sure today!
Now 7 years, and knowing that stamina was a big enemy for tommy, it woudn't be the same.
I am the biggest fan of tommy, but I have to agree with you on that.

No one in this forum has studied medicine I think.
So all of our opinions about HIV are created by what he heard from TV, magazines, internet, friends, school...

For every case you will find experts and doctors who will agree with you.
That doesn't prove anything.
You will also have no problems to find experts who will agree that Muhammad Ali is ready for a comeback and boxing commissions are the least problem.

-----------------------------------

I was a big Morrison fan myself and I feel very sorry for him. He made a lot of mistakes concerning women especially.
He paid a very high price for it.

About his chances assuming a comeback:
It's hard to predict the possible future of a 27 year old top 20 boxer if he didn't have to retire.
To predict the chances of a successful comeback for a mid thirty puncher with a glass chin after his long break, is easy.
He still has fans and a solid popularity. Some paydays in a Joe Mesi-like protected environment would be the best for him.

glass jaw my balls

Post by Tommy Gunn »

I dont agree with you, He stood up to george foreman punches, never went down, he never got ''knock down," he went down but always got up! against lewis he went down 3 times, and got up all the 3 times, I know lewis was a better man that night, but he always got up, and they stopped the fight because he was getting his ass wopped and because of his eye.
Tyson didn't get up from that right hand of lewis! so does that mean that Tyson has a good chin? He got his ass nailed by buster douglas, and holyfield who is not a hard puncher but a warrior.
And I still believe that Tyson is a baddass with a good chin.

It doesn't matter anyways, Morrison would get knocked out in about 5 seconds by any HW out there.

He sucks, he's done, move on with your life.

I never said you couldn't have your opinion, I just was curious as to why you care if Morrison comes back or not. If he did come back he would get chopped up in the first round by pretty much anyone out there......that's all.

Don't get so mad about someone's comment.
