Whyte vs. Browne

Post by Ilya Muromets »

This poll is on the British & Irish board. It should be here too. Most people there pick Browne to win, as do I, but the bookies have Whyte a 2 1/2 - 1 favorite. The fight is March 24th.

Great match-up. I hope they give Browne some mighty thorough drug testing, though.

Browne and Whyte.

Should be a colorful fight.

And I'll go with the younger, more active fighter, Whyte.

I always think of Browne as just a big, slow, strong plodder who somehow always wins.

I don't think he wins this time. Whyte should outpunch and outbox him in an entertaining scrap.

I have a hunch that it will go the distance. Both have decent chins.

The oddsmakers are correct. Whyte by unanimous decision. Age and inactivity will come back to bite Browne.

Browne is a smart fighter but i feel hes limited by his age, athleticism and maybe boxing inexperience as he started at a older age. I hope he can make his power work for him as I’m not convinced Whyte has a good chin.

It's not that hard to somehow win against Matthew Greer, Julius Long, Chauncy Welliver, and the corpse of Ruslan Chagaev who hadn't beat a top 20 opponent in 9 years.

A real pick 'em fight this one and I notice it is for the WBC Silver belt.

Now I'm the first one to put their hand up and say I hate all these Mickey Mouse belts. But should Browne win, particularly if he does so in emphatic fashion, he will be right back in the mix.

Whyte is not that good at boxing. Hes defense is not good enough to hang with Browne who has plenty of power. Browne by KO. :box:

The majority of people here, as well as the British-Irish board favor Browne, and the last time i looked the booky odds were 2 1/2 to 1 in favor of Whyte. So if u like messing with bookies it looks like a pretty good plan to put your dineros on Big Daddy. I don't though.

I can’t believe that people from this forum are seriously favouring Browne to defeat Whyte. Have any of these guys watched the Aussie fight?

Browne is worse. Considerably.

Browne has been out of the ring long enough that I don't have the confidence to throw any of my "Dineros" at this fight.

And yes I have seen the aussie fight. He has freakish power. The problem is hes not that good at landing. Whyte is the better boxer but doesn't have the power to hurt the big daddy. Whyte gets tagged way too much for me to pick him to win this one.

Nobody is claiming Browne is pretty, fast or someone to use to demonstrate the finer points of boxing. But anyone who has watched him fight knows he is very effective and has the best habit in boxing - winning.

Can he beat Whyte? We will see.

But Browne can fight. Make no mistake about that.

Yes!
I have seen 3 of his fights (on the telly) and bits on the internet.
He isn't that good, but I don't think Whyte is either. If age and ring rust don't factor with Browne, I give him a chance in this one.
Selfishly I want Browne to win, because when AJ is done with Parker, Browne/Parker would be massive in my neck of the woods.

Hey, give him credit.

He's a former world heavyweight champion. I think it's the same title that Charr proudly holds.

You can't sneeze at that.

And Browne vanquished a certified legend, Lights Out Toney. Sure Toney was around 45 and probably weighed 300, but a win over Toney means you can fight a little.

I don't see Whyte boasting a resume that includes wins over any HOF fighters nor do I see a heavyweight championship on his ledger.

I may pick Whyte, but Big Luke is no joke.

The way I see Browne is this. Hes tough as nails fighter with great power. The shots he throws move people around the ring.

I don't see anyone currently in HW going toe to toe with him and out brawl him. You don't want to go punch for punch against him. So I see him winning against the brawler types. That include guys like Chisora, Miller, Kownacki and yes Whyte too. Ruiz is actually the only one that I could see doing it. He has some fast hands paired with good chin and underrated defense on the inside.

It is the boxers I see Browne having problem with. I would pick Pulev to coast in to 119-109 kind of decision win against him. He would not have more than small punchers chance against AJ, Wilder or Povetkin.

Browne is a interesting fighter. It would be nice to have couple of more guys like him to spice up the HW scene :box:

I feel like I know what Whyte brings to the table. The question for me is Browne's endurance and ability to take Whyte's punches. I think I would go Whyte by decision.
