who will Wilder fight on 3/3?

Post by asdfjkl »

As we all know Wilder usually got an excuse to fight a massive bum, weather it's the WBC that forces him to fight a bum, or Wilder needs a tune up because he's injured, or all the good guys are scheduled, or his opponent mysteriously has been caught by the Los Angeles lab, or twice even.
So what do you guys expect will happen this time? Will he end up in the ring with Ortiz, or will he fight a bum anyway?

If he fights a bum anyway, his choices are limited:
Dillian Whyte (Jamaica/GB) SILVER
2 .- Dominic Breazeale (US)
3 .- Luis Ortiz (Cuba)
4 .- Kubrat Pulev (Bulgaria)
5 .- Tony Bellew (GB)
6 .- Johann Duhaupas (France)
7 .- Charles Martin (US)
8 .- Agit Kabayel (Germany) EBU
9 .- Oscar Rivas (Colombia/Canada) NABF
10 .- Carlos Takam (Cameroon)
11 .- Lucas Browne (Australia)
12 .- Adam Kownacki (US)
13 .- Dereck Chisora (GB)
14 .- Bermane Stiverne (Haiti/Canada)
15 .- Hughie Fury (GB) * CBP/P
Pulev is probably still too strong, Bellew doesn't want to, Kabayel is nothing special, but probably still too strong anyway. Duhaupas has been fought before and so is Stiverne, Browne would be too good, just like Hughie Fury, Charles Martin seems like the only option left. And since Charles Martin got shot (even litteraly) he aint any good no more.
What do you guys think? Or will he simply not fight at all? I'm curious about your opinions.

If Wilder didn't intend to go through with the fight, he would not have offered Ortiz the March fight. Very few would have blamed him if he'd simply walked away and he's never going to win the approval of those guys whatever he does.

C'mon man I know his resumé sucks but let's at least credit him with doing something about it.

i bet wilders haters want him to fight someone else so bad though. even though wilder-ortiz is a top fight theyd much rather have someone like agit kaybayel step to fight wilder so they can continue with the nonsense.

Wilder will fight Ortiz on March 3, knock him out in impressive fashion and then announce that his next fight will be against asdjfkl.

He's the biggest bum Wilder could find.

This serious?

As embarrassing as Wilder's record is at this stage, I think he knows it and is pretty desperate to get a name on there.

He'll fight Ortiz. Then probably Whyte as a mandatory, if he beats Browne.

He's signed to fight Povetkin and Ortiz... Not his fault they can't pass a test for one reason or another. His resume sucks, but he has tried to fight better names and I fully believe he will beat Ortiz, take a lower fight then face Joshua.

To be fair, Wilder - Ortiz actually was canceled before. As was Wilder - Povetkin. I am maintaining a healthy skepticism about whether this fight will take place until it actually does. But if it does take place, that would be nice.

Well I was skeptical as to whether Wilder really wanted to fight Ortiz. I originally predicted that the fight would get cancelled. Ironically my skepticism had largely evaporated by the time of the cancellation and it took me by surprise. All the skepticism came flooding back.

Let's be real though. Wilder didn't have to give Ortiz his chance at redemption. If he was not genuine in his disappointment at the fight being called off he'd have walked away with reputation intact, yet still not having had to face a formidable opponent. It couldn't have gone any better.

I have to swallow my words though. Clearly Wilder did want the fight all along. I am very pleasantly surprised at this. Ortiz owes Deontay big-time and I'm delighted to be wrong. :salut:

I will believe that the Wilder Ortiz fight happens when they are both in the ring and the bell rings for the first round.

Out of the WBC rankings most likely replacement opponents would be Martin and Kabayel. Both are zero risk opponents with good WBC ranking. The ranking is total trash. One of the worst that I have seen in a while.

I have been waiting for Wilder to prove hes not just a hype job for long long time

Barring genuine injury this fight will go ahead. Ortiz is desperate for it. If Wilder wanted it cancelled he'd already got his wish, so why re-instate the fight?

If there were something dodgy going down, it would be that Ortiz was in a desperate situation banned and looking at his career going down the plug-hole. A man in such a position might agree to anything to get back his career and his title shot.

Do I think that is what has happened? No, I prefer to think that Deontay has now seen that real fights are the way to glory, acclaim and respect.

He could always fight Stiverne again in case Doctor Margaret Goodman pops up and says, "Omigod i just found a microgram of Vitamin D3 in Ortiz' hair and D3 has been illegal since this morning! I am shocked, shocked i tell you, shocked!"

Ortiz had just secretly said, "No, senor, i change my mind. I am not going to take a dive!"

To use Ortiz's name to sell tickets before switching at the last minute to fight Oscar Rivas.

Sweet Jesus I thought I was a cynical bastard. :D

I can't think of too many former Wilder victims that I'd expect to beat Oscar Rivas, not that it's relevant of course.

Fans can always get a refund if the original fight doesn't go off as advertised.

Oscar Rivas. Another guy whose been around for years, has some promise, but has accomplished nada.

Surely you jest.

I agree with you. The first 2 years of his title reign were abysmal, but through 2017 I do believe he's wanted the fights to happen.

Ortiz, then a mandatory (Whyte?), then Joshua is pretty realistic, I think.
