Wilder's handlers well knew what Alexander Povetkin would do to him.

Vs. Harold Sconiers, a journeyman who had lost 17 of his previous 20 fights. This was Wilder's 13th pro fight.

the fact that after 2 years wilder was even competing internationally on the us olympic team speaks to his talent. by the way he fought at 201 pound limit in the amateurs and i think at that same event right before he beat then world #2 chakiev

imagine taking up a sport and 2 years later your going to the olympics and beating the best in the world. wilder hadnt even been boxing a full 3 years i dont think when he medaled

btw many top pros have been stopped in the amateurs. kovalev for example got flattened much harder then wilder and hed been boxing for 10 years rather then 2

Some 400 pound guy also had Wilder on the ground, before stopping while sitting on his chair later on as well. Klitschko appearantly did it by accident several times while sparring, it's really not that amazing.

Wilder fights behind the jab now. He has evolved. He uses his athleticism and stays on the outside, flicking the jab, then throws that hard right hook when guys get offensive and come inside. I really hope Ortiz makes it into the ring. It will be a very interesting fight.

Exactly, I also hope so, but expect Wilder to fight Charles Martin in the end.

Exactly man. Mark Breland is doing an amazing job with Wilder's raw talent. Breland knows how important an effective jab is for a heavyweight over all other weight classes. Look through the history of noteworthy heavyweight champs and they all developed great jabs that took them to the next level. The biggest example to me is Lennox. Once Manny got his jab popping, he went from overrated status to underrated pretty quickly.

Wilder had fewer than 30 amateur bouts. He still copped an Olympic medal.

Compare that with the practically professional Eastern European "amateurs" or Cubans who often have 400 amateur bouts.

Wilder's rise in the heavyweight ranks had been remarkable.

Of course another pretty fair heavyweight, George Foreman, also had a very short amateur career.

So what. FYI, Andre Berto stopped Tim Bradley twice in the amateurs. How has that worked out in comparison to their pro careers?
