In my view Carnera by a mile. They guy was a better boxer than most people give him credit for. He also improved as he went on. Some stories about him are way exaggerated: for example, he won several rounds against Max Baer before being knocked out. And even though the Sharkey win will never be beyond doubt (even though it looks like a legit knockout to me), he beat other good fighters fair and square, for example Paolino Uzcudun. Only Louis annilihated Carnera, but then Louis annilihated also the other leading heavyweights of his age - Schmeling, Baer, Sharkey.

PS: with "mega-heayvweight" I mean a fighter who was/is much bigger than his opponents. In this sense Vitali Klitschko - albeit bigger than both Willard and Carnera - is no mega-heavy.

Vitali was taller than Carnera, but not bigger. Willard in his prime KO's both of them.pundit wrote:PS: with "mega-heayvweight" I mean a fighter who was/is much bigger than his opponents. In this sense Vitali Klitschko - albeit bigger than both Willard and Carnera - is no mega-heavy.
