Hearn: Jacobs Deserves Shot at the Winner of Canelo-Golovkin
Eddie Hearn was blunt Tuesday.
Hearn made it clear, though, that Jacobs signed with the network ultimately to get either a rematch with middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin or a shot at Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez.
“We joined HBO for a number of reasons,” Hearn said during a press conference to officially announce Jacobs’ fight against Maciej Sulecki on April 28 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. “They’re great to work with, great profile, great people. But we also joined HBO to fight the winner of Canelo-Golovkin and I’m gonna be doing all I can, God-willing a victory over Sulecki on April 28th, to put pressure on my learned friend here, Mr. Nelson, to deliver that fight, the elite fights, the fights people want to see. And Daniel Jacobs deserves a shot at the winner of those fights, and we’ve got to make sure that we make it happen.”
Nelson noted that Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs) and Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs) could fight a third time following their much-anticipated rematch May 5. The HBO executive also stated that it’s up to Jacobs or Sulecki, if he were to pull off an upset, to create demand for a fight against the Golovkin-Alvarez winner.
“We have the rematch of Canelo and Triple-G on May 5th, and this leads into that just the week before,” Nelson said. “And obviously, the winner of this fight is gonna wanna fight the winner of that fight. What I’ll say about that, and to Eddie’s point about Jacobs wanting to fight the winner of that fight, it isn’t up to me. It’s gonna be up to the media, it’s gonna be up to the fans. And Danny Jacobs knows that. And Sulecki knows that. And when they go in to fight one another, they’re gonna have to deliver a performance that demands that the winner of Canelo-Triple-G face them. Because those two fighters have certainly earned the respect to where they are today, and as they’re on a collision course with each other once again, I’m sure a lot of people are gonna wanna see [them] fight a third time.
“But Danny Jacobs and Sulecki both have a great opportunity here. Danny can go out and prove the place that he wants to take in the division and he’s gotta do that with a knockout performance. And Sulecki stands a great opportunity here to create probably what would become one of the biggest upsets of the year. So that’s what’s at stake on April the 28th.”

Re: Hearn: Jacobs Deserves Shot at the Winner of Canelo-Golovkin
I don't think Jacobs deserves the winner. If anyone at this moment deserves the winner.. It's Saunders..
What has Jacobs done since he lost to GGG to have earned this opportunity? and don't just say he 'beat' GGG.. Because he never.. Instead, he went the distance with Luis Arias. Yes, he dominated the fight and it was clear... But IMO, he needs to mix it up with another good contender, Sulecki is a good contender IMO.
It's all bullshit TBH, Jermall is likely mandatory, He fights soon but against a low ranked contender. Why don't top contenders fight each other to determine a number 1 contender.

Re: Hearn: Jacobs Deserves Shot at the Winner of Canelo-Golovkin
Danny Jacobs deserves a rematch against GGG, regardless the outcome of Golovkin’s bout against Canelo.
Their first contest was a highly-competitive affair where the result was moderately controversial in nature, since a decent portion of the viewing audience that watched it believed the American deserved to gain the nod.
To be honest, entering the bout, GGG was a ludicrously big favourite against Jacobs and perhaps the Kazakh underestimated his opponent. So it’s possible that Gennady might be better prepared the next time they share the ring, assuming Abel Sanchez changes his mind and allows his charge to participate in the rematch, which is currently something he’s clearly reluctant to do.
It’s pretty clear though that Jacobs wouldn’t have signed an exclusive contract with HBO without receiving a guarantee that he’d be given the opportunity to face either Canelo or Golovkin, because no fighter would implement a self-imposed (almost insurmountable) contractual restriction preventing himself from being able to share the ring against men affiliated with other TV networks, such as ESPN and Showtime, without there being a significant plus side to their deal. So maybe this is already in the pipleine.

Re: Hearn: Jacobs Deserves Shot at the Winner of Canelo-Golovkin
If GGG wins, I would rather him fight BJS, Charlo or the SMW tournament winner.
Re: Hearn: Jacobs Deserves Shot at the Winner of Canelo-Golovkin
..Golovkin should look forward and not waste his time except of course there's significant financial reward boxing against Jacobs..does Jacobs deserve a shot? NO....
Re: Hearn: Jacobs Deserves Shot at the Winner of Canelo-Golovkin
I really hope that Jacobs will get a chance to box for one of the belts soon. He is deeply in the high risk low reward sector. I would like to see him against someone good soon.
I had him winning in really close fight against GGG so i think he does deserve a shot.

I think a bout between Jacobs and Canelo will be an entertaining scrap.
High level stuff.
I'd like to see it if it can be put together for Mexican Independence Day weekend in September.

Re: Hearn: Jacobs Deserves Shot at the Winner of Canelo-Golovkin
Yeah, though I'd like to see Saunders have a shot first.
Re: Hearn: Jacobs Deserves Shot at the Winner of Canelo-Golovkin
I don't think most would have a problem with Jacobs getting a shot at the winner. He's undoubtedly one of the leading contenders.
Re: Hearn: Jacobs Deserves Shot at the Winner of Canelo-Golovkin
I hope GGG fights Saunders or Jacobs next. Jermall can wait.
Re: Hearn: Jacobs Deserves Shot at the Winner of Canelo-Golovkin
Isn't Derevyanchenko the IBF mandatory? Golovkin seems more bothered about belts than Canelo so if he wins I'd expect him to deal with that fight and then look to fight Saunders late 2018 or early 2019. I thought he won the first Jacobs fight but I don't think he'll be rushing to do it again.
Re: Hearn: Jacobs Deserves Shot at the Winner of Canelo-Golovkin
Wouldn't mind seeing Jacobs v BJS next up if that fight can be made, I'm sure I read somewhere BJS only has one fight left under Frank.

Hopefully they can make the fight one way or another. It's an interesting match up.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑23 Feb 2018, 12:56Saunders ain't signing up wuith Hearn.. Could negotiate with him as a free agent.

Re: Hearn: Jacobs Deserves Shot at the Winner of Canelo-Golovkin
It should be Saunders, he's waited long enough. If we're to see Canelo-Golovkin III (could still be the biggest $$$$ fight) then Jacobs v Saunders could determine the challenger.
Difficult division right to get to the big money fights (Canelo esp or GGG) without considerable risk.

Re: Hearn: Jacobs Deserves Shot at the Winner of Canelo-Golovkin
Probably not mate. Can live in hope though. Makes sense if there's gonna be a third fight with GGG v Canelo I suppose.

Re: Hearn: Jacobs Deserves Shot at the Winner of Canelo-Golovkin
Daniel Jacobs vs Jermall Charlo. Winner deserve shot at Canelo - GGG winner.

Re: Hearn: Jacobs Deserves Shot at the Winner of Canelo-Golovkin
Jacobs vs Saunders and no tricks with the weight...
Re: Hearn: Jacobs Deserves Shot at the Winner of Canelo-Golovkin
I don't know that Golden Boy would want to make Canelo BJS.
Canelo's fan base would not tolerate BJS's style.
Best bet is Canelo GGG 3
And one or more of the belts drop in the interim.
