You're absolutely correct. He lost all his big fights. Massive fair play to him. Forced a Mayweather rematch and earned $$$'s.. he could have still gone a few years and had some decent fights. But it wasn't about belts for him. Once the rematch happened. He was financially secure and left the sport. I wouldn't rank him in my top 20 welterweights of the modern era..

So long as your in good and competitive fights you will always make money, especially if your beatable. Ortiz, Khan, Bronzer and Mayweather were all fun fights, I'm sure there's a fair few more as well.

Good for him. Seems to be happy, in good health, and living within his means (a bottle of malt and a few cigars won't break the bank). He's done well for himself, especially considering his fairly limited skill.

Certainly wouldn't surprise me if there's a few much higher earners who go bankrupt long before Marcos does. Good luck to him.

Still only 34, Maidana could step back into the sport any moment he chooses, although that seems highly unlikely as 'Chino' enjoys the fruits of his labour with his feet firmly up and cigar in hand.

Obviously enjoying his food and drink, Maidana's gameplan to get out with all his faculties and with a bank full of cash has paid dividends for the solid puncher, who won 35 of his 40 bouts in the ring during a ten-year career.
Always loved the guy, even more now I know he likes Scotch and cigars, he's like me only a tiny bit harder, glad he's enjoying life.

Enjoy good life champ !!! :box: :box: :box: The way how he raped Adrien Broner when he was 5-1 underdog is unforgettable. :box: :box: :box:

Edit: People remember him as an straigh forward brawler, but his overall boxing skill is very underrated :box: :box: :box:

He was more of a brawler earlier on in his career. He started getting behind the jab a bit more after he took up with Garcia.

He didn't lose all his big fights. Ortiz was a huge win at the time. As was Broner.

:TU: he was definitely brought in to loose Those fights but he didn't read the script, the Khan fight was awsome too, he's a quality fighter!

The Khan fight was incredible and one of the key fights that turned me into a hardcore Maidana nuthugger. I can't think of another fighter who would have gotten up from a body shot like he took. Then almost closing the show late. A spectacular showing in defeat.

It's the 2 Mayweather fights that got him 90% of his money.... If your ultimate goal is the easy life he has it....

Thank God that's NOT the way most people with money think.... Most people who are self-made multi-millionaires work very hard... They're anxious to make a contribution to the world for as long as they can... When you get rich, fat, and lazy you get frustrated with yourself because "Something is Missing" .... That something is living instead of indulging.

I'm pretty damned sure Tyson Fury is finding this out about now... Buster Douglas eventually came back and tried to box again... Buster got angry at himself for just drinking, eating, laying around the pool, buying whores, and getting fatter and fatter... However when he finally did come back and tried to box he didn't have it... He never beat another top guy.

He was a terrific fighter. He hit Mayweather with everything but the kitchen sink but couldn't KO him.

Maidana took a lot of flack in Argentina when he posted a photo of himself with rolls of banknotes all around him a couple of years ago. He apologized and said that he was parodying "money' mayweather. He looked quite fat in that picture. Now he just looks "prosperous".

I posted a photo of my friend with Alexis Arguello in Nicaragua on the boxing history board here a while back.
