how is may 5th anything other then a loss for ggg?
im not trying to hate on golovkin, but honestly i have no clue how hes not taking his first loss. at absolute best another draw.
1. gggs a year older now
2. ggg fought his ass totally off last time and only got a draw. how does he do any better when he maxed out the first time?
3. canelo had his inactive periods as usual but when he threw he was by far the more effctive of the two. i think he just needs to do a little more to win legit and has more room to improve.
4. ggg cant hurt canelo, so canelo isnt gonna be stopped
5. if anyones likely to benefit from generous cards its probably canelo
does anyone genuiniely feel that this time he will get an official win?

I was surprised how poor GGG looked offensively, he looked quite ponderous and predictable, almost laboured and was missing a lot. A factor of both Canelos movement and GGG's ageing meaning he was less able to pull the trigger and land cleanly against a fairly elusive target, I guess.
He also got way outlanded to the body, which I would expect Canelo to target more next time around.
The overall trajectory certainly doesn't seem to favour GGG

Golovkin clearly won the first fight. Alvarez landed the flashier and more eye catching work but he's was uncomfortable with the pace of the fight, he wasn't busy enough to win. If Golovkin gets a fair go from the judges I believe he takes it.

I agree with this and i'll be very surprised if GGG wins, even if he deserves to.

Of course he can win it. He came close enough last time. It’s a good match, either one could win it

If triple g does loose where does he go? Smw or 3rd fight with canelo? Retirement?
Re: how is may 5th anything other then a loss for ggg?
Ggg could definitely still win imo, he should of got the nod last time
Re: how is may 5th anything other then a loss for ggg?
what a load of nonsense! ggg won the last fight in a straightforward manner. I know he's older, and age will certainly catch up with him at some point, but how is he definately gonny lose? just last week most o you lot were tipping next gen eubank, who still fights like a novice!
Only an idiot could make a statement like that. ggg is a murderous puncher, and has a rock solid chin...that alone would guarantee a win in most fights...but we also know that he is a master boxer(almost 400 amateur wins)unbeaten as a pro
, and has one of the best trainers in the world.
canelo is also an excellent fighter, and he might even get better, but ffs the outcome of this fight is far from cut and dried

Re: how is may 5th anything other then a loss for ggg?
I scored the first bout a draw although...
I was a little drunk
And
I think I scored about 6 or 8 of the round draws
I just felt that, while GGG was pressing the fight, Canelo's defence was excellent. And he was picking his shots better.
But it was one of those fights. I'm not going to argue with someone who had Golovkin winning. He was going for it. All depends on how YOU score fights.
But I can still see him winning this time. He's a smart fighter. He can make the adjustments.
But so could Canelo.

Golovkin won 8 rounds last time. No reason why he can't again. Hopefully get some fair cards this time
Re: how is may 5th anything other then a loss for ggg?
personally i gave the fight to Golovkin by two rounds,i just dont see what Canelo can do differently to win.I expect a repeat of the first fight with Golovkin stamping it even more this time.
Re: how is may 5th anything other then a loss for ggg?
I think GGG won the first fight easily & the draw was disgusting.
Canelo will fight smarter in the rematch with a bit more aggression, looking to score with just a few more punches to steal rounds. Whilst GGG surely knows he has to get the KO or he's getting screwed over by the judges again which is a disgusting position to be in.
Maybe he'll score the KO (and I hope he does), but I think a suspiciously wide points win for Canelo is more likely.

Re: how is may 5th anything other then a loss for ggg?
As with Lennox Lewis-Evander Holyfield before it, the fix was probably in for the drawn verdict as soon as the first fight was announced. There is nothing like a draw in a big fight for fuelling global clamour for a rematch and promoters will, of course, never miss an opportunity to maximise revenue from two greats of the game facing each other.
As for this upcoming rematch, I don't actually see it being that different from last September. I don't think GGG will have gotten so old in eight months that he won't be able to make if his sort of fight again and deal effectively enough with Canelo's best efforts. The Golden Boy script will obviously have a happy ending for their Mexican hero on Cinco de Mayo but surely not all boxing judges are that easily influenced (cough-cough corruptible)... Are they?... Please tell me they're not![[icon_e_sad.gif] :verysad:](./images/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif)

GGG can win, though I imagine that with an extra year on him that he will likely struggle to match the effort he put in last time.
The 'Golovkin was robbed' myth that has been perpetuated is simply a response to the scandalous 118-110 score card. If it had been a draw via cards with a 2 point win each and a drawn card there would be no such feeling. It was a very close fight and a tight win either way or a draw is perfectly acceptable.
Both men were well in the fight throughout. I scored it 2 rounds for Alvarez as I liked his matador routine, making GGG miss and countering but I like both men and am happy to see another 12 rounds.

Re: how is may 5th anything other then a loss for ggg?
For me, the first fight showed me the best version of Canelo I've ever seen. It also showed me a sub-par Golovkin.
Based on that, despite age (it's only another 8 months anyway), Golovkin is the fighter with more room to improve. I don't think Canelo is capable of anything more than we saw the first time.
I also didn't see a particularly close fight. Yes, there were close rounds, but you had to bend over backwards to give the win, or even a draw to Canelo. He was eye-catching, but it was in spurts, few and far between. He'd give up 2 1/2 minutes of a round, just to land one flashy combo here and there. That doesn't win a round for me.
Hagler should have beat Leonard, Golovkin should have beat Canelo. Same type of fight.
The controversy for me, also wasn't Adelaide Byrd. She's shit. Always has been. That card was borderline expected.
No, it was Don Trella's 114-114 card that was the real problem. He scored Golovkin's best round of the fight, a round he dominated, 10-9 to Canelo. Even Byrd gave that round to Golovkin. Trella gets that single round correct and Byrd's abysmal 118-110 card doesn't even matter.
It will go the same as the first fight. 8-4 Golovkin, maybe 9-3. Vegas wanted the rematch, and they got it. It's the most corrupt place on the planet, as far as boxing is concerned, but they generally score their rematches properly.

Re: how is may 5th anything other then a loss for ggg?
I thought Canelo was "lucky" last time to get the draw, but maybe he'll learn from his mistakes once again. If he counters more when he makes Golovkin miss he should have this.
Re: how is may 5th anything other then a loss for ggg?
He won the first fight so of course he can win the second fight. It's possible that the controversy surrounding the judging might even help him, with judges being extra careful not to be seen as favouring Canelo, but that's probably a long shot and not something that I want to see. Just want to see a good fight with no talk about judges.
In terms of the fight itself, most thought GGG did enough first time round so the onus is on Canelo to bring something different. He was limited by his stamina in the first fight and wasn't always able to keep up with Golovkin, I'm not sure how much that can change 8 months.

The judges are 100% make sure he loses this time IMO, I'm surprised GGG is a big favourite with the bookies.
Re: how is may 5th anything other then a loss for ggg?
Canelo can't maintain a fast pace over 12. That's the only thing that stops him winning this one. I see a similar fight to the first - and I'll side with a narrow Golovkin win.
