On sunday in thailand 36 yr old Wicha Phulaikhao defeated 16 yr old Polpipat Singdee by Rnd1 KO. Phulaikhao' record was 58-9-2. Singdee was on debut. when i saw this bout upcoming i thought it might be a misprint and the opponent would change, but no this bout apparently went ahead,but i guess this is something that happens in places like thailand a lot.

That is ultra common in Thailand. Just look at Pongsaklek Wonjongkam's record. He fought a debutante when he was 87-5-2. Wonjongkam defeated 6 debutantes in total after he had already amassed 68 wins.

Excellent point. Some of the record-keeping in Thailand is very poor.

But as you also point out, sometimes these "debuters" are Muay Thai fighters whose Muay Thai fights are not included in there boxing record.

Not sure which ones but I also understand that some of the top-notch Thai boxers actually started out in Muay Thai.

Nothing new over there. They probably have the worst matchmaking in boxing that makes the touring losers hawked around from Eastern Europe look acceptable. Most of the fighters records are hard to verify also if they have come from out in the provinces. Sometimes the former Muay Thai stars will jump straight in at a better level but those are usually well into their twenties not 16 year olds.

Nothing new in Thailand...

Wisaksil Wangek fought nothing but debuting boxers leading up to his Roman Gonzalez Fight.....who he kicked ass on... Can you believe it??? ... I frankly didn't think Wangek would do that well against Gonzalez because he lacked the competition...

The only way to explain what he's done is overwhelming talent... He has no real jab, brilliant footwork or countering skills... He's just very tough and strong physically and he's super quick... His temperament is very, very good. Whatever the referee tells him or whatever goes on -- he doesn't bat an eyelash... Gonzalez was more concerned than Wangek.

I noticed when he first started out he was over-matched a few times... It's a staple over there -- throw 'em to the wolves.
