If You Were Gormans Trainer.....

Post by Taansend »

Would you get him.....

.....to gain more muscle?

.....to do more cardio

.....to make him fitter AND moire chiseled (a la Holyfield)

.....something else

.....or leave his body type as is?

He's only 21 & will grow into his body & you don't want to f*ck with his speed?

Take a stone off and see how it affects him. He's a small heavy compared to others so having a speed advantage is key.

Funnily enough his lightest weight was his only distance fight in the last ten bouts.

ya but he was also fighting a guy who might be his best opponent, pretty normal for fights not to end so quickly vs your best opposition

Focus on explosive weight training with a reasonable amount of general cardio and a fair bit of sprint training as well. Wouldn’t want to loose his fast hands but he could easily loose 20lbs of fat and gain some muscle without reinventing the wheel. If DDD is 17 stone then Gorman has no right being heavier !

It’s boxing not posing and he’s not descended from West Coast Africans, so why compare him to Dubois?

Roy Nelson could fight like a mfer and half the guys in the NFL are as athletic as they come but carrying a bit of timber. It only bothers the perverts.

I'd tell him to actually train , which he obviously doesn't .

or too much food/drink

thats what i asked on another thread

like, if a guy busts his arse with all the right training in the gym and cardio, but simply eats a lot and gains flab from calories , how much of the benefit of the training does he get

People come out with this bollocks all the time when defending obviously fat boxers who don't train properly.

John could do the distance well and could run 100 meters in a stupidly fast time. And trained as hard as anyone. Londonirish has said many a time, and been in camp with him a lot. Obviously, Dirk will know better....

Not as often as people who’ve never seen a particular boxer training in the gym making out they know more than people who have.

I'm sure he could but let's face reality - he spent a lot of time in evidently bad shape and all the tales of him being surprisingly quick are the same things everyone says about fat lads.

Gorman isn't body beautiful but who cares if he trains hard and can fight.
If he is lazy in the gym and doesn't live well it is obv another thing.

How did Danny Williams get on against Vitali Klitschko?

There's being ripped, which applies to a few boxers. And being in shape, which applies to lots. And then there's being fat, which Gorman is.

The bloke got kayod in one next bout though.

Maybe the lighter weight left Gorman drained?

I know. It's weird that sklar equates discussing boxers training (on a boxing forum) with being a pervert :maybe:

The one thing that unifies all of the all time great heavyweights in their prime is that they were all in excellent condition. Gorman can only go so far in that kind of shape.

That said, I really like him and would pick him against Dubois if they fought next.

I dunno what the reason behind his extra weight is really.
Hatton knows how to shed fat and presumably applies what Kerry Kayes used to do with him in Gormans strength and conditioning sessions.
Perhaps it is just lack of discipline with diet.
Gorman hasn’t appeared to be lacking in fitness but strength to weight ratio could obviously be improved and he won’t reach the top tier in current condition.
