Well, I'd disagree with that.

Witter was his main rival throughout his career and he ducked him.

That does affect his legacy and it will never be forgotten.
No he didn't duck him and not facing Witter definitely doesn't affect his legacy in any shape or form. And only you will not forget.

You make it sound like Witter was some Mike McCallum type fighter. In truth he could and did stink the place out on many occasions

Hatton had bigger fish to fry plain and simple.
I think the fact that the Witter question is still raised so frequently shows that many people disagree.

To be honest, I reckon a lot of people (including myself) reckon that Hatton would have won, but his reluctance to make the fight raises doubts.

Ricky Hatton made enough money from boxing to live comfortably for the rest of his life ..... how many other British boxers can say that ?

Anyone who makes enough ££ to live the rest of their life on from boxing has been very successful imo !
I don't care about his money, I care about his record.

We are meant to rate fighters based on how much money they made now?
Horse answer this question ..... do u think if a boxer becomes a global celebrity and multi millionaire from boxing - does that mean he hasn’t had a successful career yes or no?

Nope. Awful comment.

Except that he didn't fry bigger fish. He fought trash like Lazcano, Urango and Maussa.

Hatton's record is going to age badly and ducking Witter will affect how he will be considered negatively.

I only care about their record.

I know there are loads of creeps out there who really love the thought of other people making loads of money, but I'm not one of them.

Hatton's bank balance is of no interest to me.

Looking back, that was one of the biggest exposures of a fraud that I've seen in boxing. Harris was getting so much hype. I think he gatecrashed a Mayweather press conference and there was talk that Floyd was ducking him. He was expected to bomb Hatton out easily and talk was that Hatton was avoiding him also. Maussa, who had been done by Cotto a few fights earlier, came into the fight looking like a rank amateur. I remember Ian Darke being shocked at how poor Maussa looked in the first. He was even more shocked as Maussa started to give a thorough hiding to Harris. Harris was never the same after the fight.

I'd have favoured Hatton as well, but unfortunately Hatton chose the more cynical and boring path.

Harris had already lost to a journeyman called Ray Oliveira who incidentally Hatton stopped but either way Harris remains Witters biggest and most impressive win.

harris was decent at his best but not someone who stands out at all from a historical stance. theres lots and lits of top 10 guys at any given moment like him who arent very impressive . he was just around for the right fights to get a belt

As I said before Hatton will be seen as the man that ended the title reign of Kostya Tzsyu, became a 2 weight champ and set up fights against P4P two of best fighters of modern times. That's his legacy and it is in no way tainted by not facing Witter. The fact that they didn't face off will be just a footnote in British boxing history.

Ludicrous to think otherwise in my opinion.

Hatton clearly, clearly, clearly ducked Witter when the Lazcano fight happened. There's absolutely no doubt about it.

I don't begrudge Ricky for one second for chasing the Floyd fight. But after that, Witter really should have happened. WBC 140 champion and long term domestic rival or Juan Lazcano? Come on.

Pacquiao destroyed Hatton like he was a low level journeyman.

Why do people mention that fight like it was a legacy enhancer? It was the opposite, it damaged Hatton's reputation.

Around 2005 time I'd have loved to have seen Hatton fight Cotto or Gatti. Both held other versions of the titles too. Also Diego Corrales. The witter fight would have been a stinker but great national event. Had he not retired following the Pacquiao fight we could have got a Khan blockbuster too.

Hatton had an impeccable career. A bit more activity or slight different choice of opponent could have made it even better

Kind of but Witter had to defend his title against a mandatory first who happened to be Tim Bradley and he lost.
