just curious, since i know ppl close to ronnie post here

does ronnie clarke get full training camps where he can train full time

because watching him i always felt he had the talent to win fights like this and some of the fights he lost, maybe grabbing a brit title and maybe even being on the euro scene, but multiple times ive watched him and just got the feeling hes not getting the most from himself. and what type of sparring does he get in dundee

he brought it vs barret though

Since teaming up with his manager Mark Dunlop and training in Belfast things have improved greatly for him with regards to training/sparring etc, there's very little for him sparring wise in dundee,he used to have to travel here there and everywhere to try and get some rounds with very little money and sponsorship,I've never saw Ronnie knock back anyone who's asked for his help to spar them when theve had fights coming up but when hes needed a favour in return most of them, not all had their phones switched off, that what life was like in Scotland for him,hes definetly did it the hard way and hopefully he gets a few big pay days now,ps lewis Benson was great sparring for him in the lead up to this fight 👍

Be interesting to see if Frank dares to try and make the fight with Leon Woodstock. Be a good fight.

That uppercut that dropped Barrett was a beautiful shot. Right on the point of the chin. Barrett showed a lot of heart but what was lacking was the power. He couldn't discourage Clark. I thought he was a bigger puncher than that. He showed a lot of heart. To be honest I scored the fight for Barrett, very close though and I can't complain and I'm probably in the minority.

Clark is a likable guy. He comes across as a really nice guy, although if came up and demanded I give him my wallet I would immediately give him everything I had an make a run for it as he looks like someone you don't want to cross.

I wouldn't claim to know Ronnie well but ive met him a few times over the years at amateur shows and even ended up at one of his after partys when he fought in Dundee, he's always came across as a total gent and has always had time for a chat, before he fought he fought Cacace he personally came to mine to drop off tickets and had a blether for about a half hour, he's a dude man and I'm chuffed to bits he finally got the rub of the green, he's been unlucky with a few results but there was no luck involved at all with the Barrett win last night :salut:

I have just had another look at Ronnies record - he has done it the hard way that's for sure, on the road, no favours facing house fighters etc. etc.

Also just looked down Zelfa's record (although the same can be said for any "prospect") and it contains the usual domestic suspects plus overmatched overseas fighters that I have never heard of.

Surely there must be some balance between developing a record, picking up skills, progressing the number of rounds etc. - fair enough up to say 10 fights, but sooner or later they need to fight somebody who is willing and capable of fighting back.

Woodstock is no where near ready for Ronnie. That is the real Ronnie Clark a bit of time away has helped him see boxing the right way. Zelfa make no mistake is the best fighter he has been in with and contributed to a great fight. Zelfa will go on to be a world champion.. Question is could Ronnie?? I would like to see him going down the IBF route title. The title is vacant and with Billy Dibb, Gullieme Frenois and Devon Farmer all in the top 5. All of them are winnable fights.. Would like to see him in with Jonno Carroll next.. I think Pat is clever enough to stay away from that rematch and rebuild Zelfa.. Would like to see him at lightweight.. With Woodstock he should stick to his own path far too much hype in boxing

Well I think Clark was seen as a domestic level operator. He had been KO'd by Cacace and lost fairly clearly to Ward. Before last night you'd have put Barrett a level above that on what he has shown in terms of technical ability. I would have picked him to beat MJ Ward and I think most on here would have.

It was sad he lost in a way because he showed some real bottle and heart, everything you wonder a prospect has he showed. He refused to be bullied and had plenty to say to Clark. He showed some spitefulness and remained pretty composed to get through the knockdown. A great learning fight I guess and judging from the heart and tenacity he showed, I can definitely see him coming back. He got exposed but it's hard to put Clark on a level now. Not sure if he really improved and genuinely can compete at world level or if Zelfa was just a fraud. I suppose when you have the likes of Billy Dib as a potential world title opponent, then winning the title is definitely possible. I'd like to see Clark win the belt, couldn't happen to a better bloke.

Come on mate, it was a great win but not everybody is going to be a World Champion.

Why not have a nice gimme fight next then rematches with Walsh, Ward then Barrett - these fights can cover British, Commonwealth and European titles. Hopefully Ronnie will be given a fair crack with no home cooking.

These are all tough but winnable fights for Ronnie - if he gets through that, then you can start talking about World titles.

If them fights can be made on tv like last night then surely he will pick up a few fans.

Zelfa needs a run out next time then he needs a decent fight of Clark level, otherwise he will end up like Tyrone Nurse.

If you don’t aim for the stars you won’t get them.. Walsh is a featherweight.. Zelfa is Ronnie’s best opponent and by a long way.. The way Ronnie fought last night he stops Ward. As for a rematch with Barrett that does Zelfa no good. He’s only 24 he needs to get to the right weight and take a couple of years adjusting. He can be a World Champion but the timing has to be right..

As for fighting for a World Title Stephen Smith has a couple of times.. So has Liam Walsh they aren’t any better than Ronnie. Ward will fight for a world title soon enough.. When a division opens up you need take your opportunity this division is opening up and there is a lot of winnable fights there.. Ricky Burns won 2 of his World titles against Rocky Martinez and Di Rocco I know Ronnie would beat both them.. Ronnie doesn’t want any Gimmes I see what your saying but the difference between being a European or British Champion is a very fine line

Barrett is unproven and should probably not be considered to be one of Clark's best 5 opponents, let alone the best.

Ronnie knows he’s been in with them.. Zelfa is the best opponent.. People are giving him a hard time and even Franks comments I think the should be happy.. Thst was a very very good Fighter.. As tough as they come some of the shots he took and to point out he dished put some too.. Zelfa had to throw power punches constantly to try and keep Ronnie off.. Both fighters exceeded my expectations.. Ronnie has still got more to give I know he can fight even better than that.. Zelfa needs to get his weight right huge shoulders needs to let the rest of his body catch up.. World Champion at lightweight or light welter I’m sure of it

If I'm Frank I would get Clark in for Leon Woodstock.

He was starting to build Woodstock v Barrett a little bit.

Clark would show if Woodstock is legit or not. If Woodstock loses then you have your answer it's not like he is a big seller so it wouldn't be that harmful.

If Woodstock wins and looks good then you have a guy to build on.

I can’t see any promoter wanting to push him given the stuff with his ex a while back. He’s going to struggle unless he’s the opponent.

Doesn’t have the backing financially or in popularity to overcome domestic violence the way Mayweather did

Yeah Franks a bit of a moral crusader like that, and he only takes on lads who were choirboys and don’t have so much as a parking ticket.

No idea how he views men who threaten and knock women about. There are other boxers with similar issues working so it does go on, but what’s in it for a promoter when the man doesn’t draw a crowd?
