Some hypothetical matchups

Post by pundit »

Who wins (alway primes)?

James Jeffries - Harry Wills
Harry Wills - Max Schmeling
Max Schmeling - Jersey Joe Walcott
Jersey Joe Walcott - Sonny Liston
Sonny Liston - Joe Frazier
Joe Frazier - Evander Holyfield

My picks: Wills, Wills, Schmeling, Liston, Liston, Frazier; but all picks are difficult.

James Jeffries - Harry Wills .... Jeffries 2 out of 3
Harry Wills - Max Schmeling.... Wills 3 out of 3
Max Schmeling - Jersey Joe Walcott .... Schmeling 2 out of 3
Jersey Joe Walcott - Sonny Liston...... Liston 3 out of 3
Sonny Liston - Joe Frazier ....... ?????
Joe Frazier - Evander Holyfield ...... Frazier 2 out of 3

I usually think that Liston beats Frazier everytime..... but then I think about Frazier's determination, and about Liston never fighting anyone quite like Frazier. But then I remember what Foreman did to Frazier then I think about what Leotis Martin did to Liston. And then I think about Jaclem saying that I spend too much time on the fence.

And then I think about the view from the fence..... and it all starts over again.

It's the Wills Jeffries Matchup that is most interesting, I don't see Wills as getting it done, but pundit and devious disagree.

I picked Jeffries, but found it the most difficult one to call. Jeffries was unbeaten in his peak until he fought Johnson when he was faded, so find it hard to argue against him unless it was one of the real top top guys of all time. Id rank both Jeffries and Wills in my top 20 heavyweights of all time.

Well with Monzon's reach and skill I think he would be Ray's nightmare. He couldnt pull the flashy tappy target practice with Monzon. This coming from someone who likes Ray a lot. But like I say I see Monzon as the best of all MW's.
