Sheffield boxer Tyan Booth has had his licence suspended for a tasteless remark on social media following the death of Scott Westgarth. Robert Smith, secretary of British Boxing Board of Control, said the licence of Tyan, 34, who is trained by Dominic Ingle, had been suspended with immediate effect following tweets posted on Monday.

Mr Westgarth's death was confirmed. Mr Westgarth, who was trained by Glyn Rhodes at Sheffield Boxing Centre, passed away in hospital just hours after winning the biggest fight of his career against Dec Spelman on Saturday night.

Booth took to Twitter to say: "Some people would enjoy it if I got killed in a boxing ring like Scott Westgarth #MANDOWN."

He later added: "To those complaining about my tweet about the boxer who got killed recently, I'm boxing myself in two weeks and I've spent the past three months drinking cider and not training properly so there's a good chance I'll end up in a wheelchair like Gerald McClellan, so tune in."

It's a daft thing to put on Twitter but should he really be getting suspended over a comment on social media? Free speech and all that.

I was reading this last night and thought he must have been hacked. His previous Tweets are certainly not P.C and it is up to the individual whether they find him funny, but this seemed nervous breakdown stuff!

at a time when boxing is under the spotlight, and likely to be under fire, the board can't be seen to be letting license-holders make comments like that without censure.

Bollocks, that's not free speech. Free speech has it's limitations. If a person of influence, let's say, David Beckham, told people to start killing a certain demographic, some nutty fans probably would. Free speech

I suspect he's gone in there trying to be deep rather than hurtful but pitched it all wrong. I don't think he should lose his licence. Take his phone off him instead.

I'm not sure where he is coming from mentally there, whether it's a cry for attention or a cry for help.

I saw the tweets and initially I was pissed, but maybe like a few I jumped the gun. If the tweet about drinking etc is true then maybe removing his licence is a good thing for his own safety.

Maybe that's why they withdraw it.. Not just because of his first tweet.

It's as good a reason as any, because despite him being a fool he wasn't being intentionally disrespectful to Westgarth, more twist the agenda against himself.

they should ask for a mental evaluation before letting him fight again.

Based on this I assume that you don't agree with freedom of speech.

Really strange comments. I'm not gonna say whether or not he should or shouldn't be suspended, but I really don't care that he's suspended personally.

Definitely don't get what he was trying to say with this comments.

Had a scroll through his twitter last night and the guy is a total bellend tbh. I think IFL have binned him and distancing them from him as are people generally, and that was before the latest screw up

The more I think of this the more he sounds like he is mentally ill. I just hope as well as the ass kicking, he gets professional help.

Still, I am not sure why the Eubank's got no grief over their passive/aggressive comments about how Chris hurt Blackwell. To me, ever since the day it happened, they have used it as a selling point saying how 'hard' Chris is.

Some subjects should be left alone...dead and injured fighters is one of those sunjects

He does have free speech. He was able to say what he did and could do again. However, actions have consequences as he has found out. He has brought the sport into disrepute. A boxing license isn’t a right.

A person could use free speech to have a go at his/her employers but may well find themselves out of a job.

Comments like his damage the reputation of the sport.
A fighter dies and a fellow pro thinks it’s funny to take the piss.
The best part of boxing is the community Fighters,Fans media etc.
Even when we argue, we share the same fundamentals.
Comments like his attack the entire fabric of the sport.

It is still a restriction on freedom of speech.
