He often fights to the level of his opponents. He looked just as bad against Carmona and came back looking fantastic against Gallito. Still, Arroyo is a very good fighter. Not at all sure why everyone had Cuadras as such a heavy favorite.Boxing Prospect wrote: ↑25 Feb 2018, 00:02...can we admit that Cuadras is past his prime now?

It shall be interesting to see where Omar Navarez will stand in this debate when he fights Zolani Tete.

These still ranked fighters came to my mind :
1) Derek Chisora
2) Blake Caparello
3) Issac Chilemba
4) Austin Trout
5) Edner Cherry

Just curious.. When was Chisora in his prime?
Around the time he fought Fury, Helenius and Vitali? Even though he lost 2 of them clean.
Re: Active Boxers, Still Relevant, But Past Their Prime?
I would say Chisora's strongest career performance was when he KO'd Edmund Gerber (rd 5) in 2013.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑27 Feb 2018, 12:27Just curious.. When was Chisora in his prime?

Martin Murray - prime would have been close to the Martinez fight. Not shot, but not what he once was. Still a name though, especially domestically.
Povetkin seems an ideal fit. Clearly not at his best anymore, but with a lack of depth in the division he is extremely relevant.
Amir Khan is the perfect fit if fighting again. No way he is prime but his name along with the new match room link up makes him very relevant.

David Haye..
Can we argue that Bellew is in his prime?

If he is then he's wasting it at the wrong weight. I'd suggest he's just, just past it.

When would you say he was at his prime? Tbh his performance in the first Haye fight was poor. BJ Flores was a crap fight. He got dropped by Makabu.. he's never had a career defing performance has he? Was his prime when he moved up to Cruiserweight?Yes We Can wrote: ↑27 Feb 2018, 14:28If he is then he's wasting it at the wrong weight. I'd suggest he's just, just past it.

He got dropped by makabu, then put on a his best performance to date... I'd say his cruiserweight run is his prime upto flores... He may improve against Haye in the 2nd fight, adjust to the weight etc as he looked awful in his early CW bouts.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑27 Feb 2018, 16:08When would you say he was at his prime? Career best round probably. It was just a scrap where he landed the clean punch once. But I agree. His CW run was probably his prime and even then not many cared..Yes We Can wrote: ↑27 Feb 2018, 16:11He got dropped by makabu, then put on a his best performance to date... Is Spadafora or Oliver McCall still fighting? How about Randall Bailey or Emanuel Augustus?

Augustus damn sure isn't. He was shot in the head a few years back. He's not dead, but he has a serious enough injury that I'm sure no Boxing Commission anywhere in the world would clear him to fight anymore.
McCall and Spaddy haven't fought since 2014. Bailey's last fight was his loss to Jeff Horn in 2016.
Re: Active Boxers, Still Relevant, But Past Their Prime?
Chisora's prime started during the Helenius fight. It's been ongoing, and it is arguably not entirely over yet. He merely has poor momentum right now.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑27 Feb 2018, 12:27Just curious.. When was Chisora in his prime?

Losing to Fury and Vitali doesn't mean he wasn't prime. Sometimes fighter A is just better than fighter B. A fighter doesn't have to win to be in his prime. Every fighter has their prime, i.e. the time span in which he is 81-100% of the most ability that he will ever have. But you can be the best that you'll ever be and lose to someone who just IS better. Chisora's prime just wasn't as good as Fury's prime or Vitali's twilight.
Fickle-ass boxing fans acting like a boxer's prime is only 3 days. Naw, son. A prime is often more like 8 years. It usually spans from age 27 to age 35.
