He’s not clever enough to be subtle. Taking the piss IMO.

I support him being suspended after such comments.
I wonder if Steve Bunce will still be welcome at events..

I'm not entirely convinced he was taking the piss, certainly not out of the death of West garth.PredatorHayds wrote: ↑27 Feb 2018, 14:58Comments like his damage the reputation of the sport.Yes We Can wrote: ↑27 Feb 2018, 13:27Correct call for what reason though, that's what I'm interested in?PredatorHayds wrote: ↑27 Feb 2018, 13:25 Attention seeking idiot.
Correct call- taking his license away from him.
A fighter dies and a fellow pro thinks it’s funny to take the piss.

He could have argued that when he realised how distasteful the comment was but when hit with people saying how out of line he was he then tweeted in the same night mimicking the mcllelen tragedy that for me shows how much a arse this guy is he doesn't belong in the boxing business if he can't even respect the sport that so many fighters put there everything into when such tragedies as this hit!! If hadn't any remorse for the tragedy that happened then maybe just not say anything never mind joke about it I'm happy he's had his license suspendedSklar wrote: ↑27 Feb 2018, 15:18Was he taking the piss or was he trying to highlight the absurd hypocrisy of the boxing fan?PredatorHayds wrote: ↑27 Feb 2018, 14:58 A fighter dies and a fellow pro thinks it’s funny to take the piss.

I agree that Booth wasn’t taking the piss out of the death of Westgarth. I’m not really sure what he was trying to say tbh, but it did read like a ‘woe is me’ tweet from someone feeling very sorry for themselves. Hugely inappropriate given the tragic circumstances, but didn’t seem like there was any malice in it.Yes We Can wrote: ↑27 Feb 2018, 15:24I'm not entirely convinced he was taking the piss, certainly not out of the death of West garth.PredatorHayds wrote: ↑27 Feb 2018, 14:58Comments like his damage the reputation of the sport.Yes We Can wrote: ↑27 Feb 2018, 13:27

Irrespective of freedom of speech, it makes perfect sense to suspend the licence of someone that tells the world they have been on the lash and not training for a combat sport.

For heaven's sake. Nobody is restricting free speech. Nobody is taking his licence away. His licence has been suspended until the next Area Council meeting, at which point he will be given a fair opportunity to explain himself. If he apologizes then that may be that. If he is ill, as some have suggested, then his licence may be withheld for a while until such time as he recovers. It's not complicated. What he said was disgrace, especially the bit about drinking cider every day and not training. It is not about free speech, it is about the responsibilities that come with being a boxer. Especially your responsibilities towards fellow professionals, medical staff and those that pay good money to support the game.Horse wrote: ↑27 Feb 2018, 15:07It is still a restriction on freedom of speech.gerryd77 wrote: ↑27 Feb 2018, 14:53He does have free speech. He was able to say what he did and could do again. However, actions have consequences as he has found out. He has brought the sport into disrepute. A boxing license isn’t a right.
A person could use free speech to have a go at his/her employers but may well find themselves out of a job.

What is embarrassing @curtiswoodhous8 is u coming 2 the gym 2 spar, getting schooled, then climbing out after 1 round, then crying 2 ur trainer 4 putting u in with me but, theres already been a boxer killed, so if u stayed in for more than that round there'd probably be another 1 …

The first tweet was horrendous but the second one I think is worse for bringing in Gerald McClellan as a comparative.

We hear boxers say
I'm going to kill him
I hope he dies
I want to eat his children
This is a sport that the elite are normally not of the best character.
His comments are crude, tasteless and immature. But I do not see them as a punishable offense.
The world needs to ignore idiots like this

maybe because hes directly bringing in an actual and fresh boxing tragedy (and others) into it, when there is public attention and sadness on the death and a bad look for boxing. saying stuff like #mandown with reference to the tragedy and also saying it will happen to woodhouse is incredibly tactless and not just normal trash talk btwn two guys
lewis didnt even have kids at that time either i dont think

Really strange rant from Booth. Always came across a bit of a crank in his interviews I thought. Don't really know what to make of it.

I'm not sure what to make of it apart from it being offensive to many people. I'm sure people on Twitter say worse stuff than this but these 2 boxers obviously see each other in the gym so why not just say it to his face rather than make it public?
Why do people need to make conversations so public? What is the world coming to when people have to continually speak but get it across to the masses when its directed to one person?
I dont get all this social media stuff but its the changing world isn't it?
Its like on Facebook you get someone in your friends list that posts on their time line a simple few words 'Its; been a rough day' (for example) nothing more then that. Then all they are waiting for is the replies.
'Oh, babe, what wrong?'
'I'm here if you need to talk'
'Whats happened darl?'
'Hope you are ok'
Then after about 150 replies the person who put it up generally eventually replies.
'Its ok I missed the bus and had to wait for the next one'
Its all bullshit really and who take note and talk about it are the real fools and idiots, surely?
Re: Sheffield boxer Tyan Booth has licence suspended for sick tweets following death of Scott Westgarth
I agree that he shouldn't have his living threatened by exercising his right to free (if twisted) speech. It's an authoritarian, populist and disproportionate response.
The correct response is a) to call him out for being a pudendum and b) for promoters who feel sufficiently enraged about his comments not to offer him work.
However: suspending his license for claiming to be on the piss instead of training (and predicting his own death as a consequence) is, in my view, warranted on safety grounds.
Re: Sheffield boxer Tyan Booth has licence suspended for sick tweets following death of Scott Westgarth
The comments were I'll judged and in very bad taste. They also have the potential to upset many people.
Should he have been banned? I'm not sure.
Would he have been banned in other sports? More than likely.
I think that is part of the reason for the ban, the board are going to be getting more stick than usual this week from the ban boxing lobby.
So this week, more than most, the board has to act in the same way an official body of any other, more mainstream, sports would.

Alex Higgins the snooker player of many years ago was forever saying stuff to the media and was always getting fined for bringing the game into disrepute. He would say he wanted Dennis Taylor dead and was banned and fined for saying such to reporters.
So this kid saying stuff on Twitter is the same sort of thing and should be banned or fined for bringing his sport into disrepute.
In my opinion he should be fined by his organisation, not sure what the fine should be, but if you are a member of an organisation you should respect their rules and regulations and should conduct yourself appropriately.
If I started slagging my hospital off and saying managers were wankers etc etc I would be brought in and disciplined and possibly given a written warning or possibly suspended and fired. I couldnt say it was freedom of speech and get away with it.
