Re: wilder would beat aj
I'd still pick AJ to win the fight. I just think he's more skilled. It takes Wilder a while to get there against a skillful opponent, and I think by the time he got the chance to land his big bomb AJ would've already landed his first, and finished the fight. If however Wilder were able to survive until AJ showed fatigued I believe he'd step on the gas and finish him. I don't think he'd let him off the hook like Wlad did. Big if whether or not he could reach that point in the fight against AJ though.

Re: wilder would beat aj
I think AJ has better boxing skills than either Wilder or Ortiz and hits harder than Ortiz. So I think he should be the favorite unless he shows major flaws vs Parker.
That being said, Wilder-Joshua is a compelling fight that could give boxing its biggest boost in over 20 years!!
It could come down to who has home turf advantage. If I was Wilder I would try to avoid a fight at Wembley in front of 90,000 screaming Joshua fans!! Joshua has been saying all along that he wants to fight in Vegas and the US in general, so if I was Wilder's camp I would push for a match in the US.

Re: wilder would beat aj
Cuz Joshua is too skilled and too good a finisher for Wilder.... Wilder was exposed as a wild assed swinger in this fight... Joshua will easily reach him with his jab -- and his right hand counter is the best in the Heavyweight Division.
Ortiz was exposed as a slow-assed, middle aged fat boy who's on high blood pressure medication... He looked terrible...
Ortiz was so old and slow that he couldn't put punches together when Wilder was in desperate trouble... Not only that, but his temperament failed him... He wasn't the cool, collected, cold blooded finisher he appeared to be against Jennings... Age robs you of your reflexes, spring, and speed... He should have gotten his shot right after the Jennings fight... He was still good.
However, Wilder is a winner.. He displayed his character.. He was badly hurt and never panicked for a second... But I didn't like the fact that he was given extra time to recover at the start of the 8th... The BS in starting the action was extreme favoritism and might have influenced the result... I had Ortiz winning the fight at the end of the 9th and the judges scorecards were pure BS... However Deontay has nothing to do with that.. He can only fight his best.. That he did.. He won a fight that seemed unlikely to happen for years.
It was a great night for Boxing all around with Bivol emerging as a great young Light Heavyweight... Wilder solidified his standing as the best American Heavyweight in many years... The whole world will be tuned in to see Joshua vs Wilder.
Re: wilder would beat aj
Not at all. He got outboxed for the majority of the fight against a 50-year old fart that was carrying too much fat for his own good. Wilder held a stylistic, age, reach, athletic, and height advantage and almost got stopped in the 7th round.
AJ kills this boy. I don't think there is any scenario where Wilder comes off looking good after that fight. Only thing he proved is his chin isn't china, and he's tough. Other than that, this fight, like others, exposed all his holes.

Re: wilder would beat aj
Because AJ has better technique, balance and defence. He can wobble you with one punch much like wilder. It was not a good showing for wilder tonight, he’s not a great fighter but has great power. Not saying AJ is a great fighter but he’s at world class level which Id struggle to say about Wilder.
Re: wilder would beat aj
lol i think i shouldve worded the threat 'aj would beat wilder, tell me why not'
interested to here from wilder wins ppl how he beats aj and overcomes the technical deficit. because it is true that aj brings a more rounded balance of power and technique. id say there arent as many hole to exploit with him.

I give Wilder only a KO opportunity here.

Re: wilder would beat aj
The version of Ortiz that showed up beats almost every heavy out there. He was technically excellent and a fast handed counterpuncher. Not to mention he does it southpaw and set traps.
Re: wilder would beat aj
Well said. Finally someone makes sense. I too thought Ortiz looked good, and probably as good as he could. Technically Ortiz imo is better than AJ, and more difficult to fight due to him being a southpaw. I seriously would like to see him vs Parker or AJ, or any other top heavy before he gets too old.marvelous marv wrote: ↑04 Mar 2018, 07:19 The version of Ortiz that showed up beats almost every heavy out there. Some say Wilder only has a puncher's chance against AJ? It is all he will probably need. He showed a lot of heart and a great chin when he took some huge shots and kept his feet, then came back. Ortiz would have beat any heavy out there except Wilder. Ortiz didn't let up when he had Wilder in trouble like Wlad did with AJ.
Re: wilder would beat aj
i think aj would ko ortiz too though
Re: wilder would beat aj
I'm not so sure about that. Hopefully they will fight sometime to find out. AJ had chances to fight Ortiz but I never heard his name even mentioned by AJ, until this year when Ortiz earned mandatory status. Maybe he doesn't like southpaws? He could have fought him when he fought Breazeale, for example, who had his ass handed to him by old man Mansour until the fight had to be stopped.
If AJ beats Wilder, he will have to fight Ortiz, because he isn't going anywhere just yet. He had much more left than I thought.

I think Joshua will beat Wilder but I can certainly envisage a situation where Wilder wins.jamamb wrote: ↑04 Mar 2018, 04:28 lol i think i shouldve worded the threat 'aj would beat wilder, tell me why not'

For all his ridiculous windmilling, he does throw a decent straight right on occasion - I could see Joshua having to chase Wilder around the ring for a few rounds and walking onto a right hand. It's a lot harder to counter Wilder's swinging if you've been buzzed badly.
Having said that, I'd still favour Joshua 70/30 based on his tighter defence and superior straight shots.

Re: wilder would beat aj
No, he was old, fat and came into the fight looking horrific against a c-level fighter like Malik Scott. AJ would've KO'd his inactive ass.marvelous marv wrote: ↑04 Mar 2018, 07:19 The version of Ortiz that showed up beats almost every heavy out there. Re: wilder would beat aj
So why wouldn't AJ fight him? Tough, cagy southpaw would give AJ fits. I appreciate your love for AJ, but your assessment lacks merit.
Re: wilder would beat aj
AJ was busy fighting better contenders like Takam, Parker, and Klitschko. Ortiz failed a drug test and was on a different path. Your assessment lacks accuracy.
Re: wilder would beat aj
LMFAO! An AJ fan accusing another fighter of PED's! AJ is just another protected British heavyweight heading down the Frank Bruno path.
Re: wilder would beat aj
Not at all saying AJ isn't on something, but he hasn't failed a drug test yet and been banned like Ortiz was. It's inaccurate to talk about Ortiz without addressing the fact that he was ineligible to fight twice.oogiebe wrote: ↑04 Mar 2018, 13:49LMFAO! An AJ fan accusing another fighter of PED's! Whatever you say, boss. It was, however; a great fight!Mexi-Box wrote: ↑04 Mar 2018, 13:56Not at all saying AJ isn't on something, but he hasn't failed a drug test yet and been banned like Ortiz was.
