I had it 87-83 Ortiz heading into the 10th.

If anything the judges having it scored incorrectly sort of takes away from the drama of what the story was supposed to be here. This was a dramatic come from behind win for Wilder, but for some reason they had him winning a fight he was clearly losing.

There was a lot of pretty close rounds.

Pretty much what you'd expect for any hometown fighter. You'd expect the same in Britain etc.

Not that it mattered in the end.

Writing was on the wall? I don't think so. Wilder definitely caught up to Ortiz with that right hand, and took advantage when he did it, but I'm sure he and his corner were still nervous as sh*t coming into that 10th round.

There was nothing to indicate that he would definitely catch Ortiz over the final 3 rounds if that's what you're implying. I'm sure he was relieved to have finished it when he did.

I thought he'd lost the 9th round, but not in dominant fashion or anything. I had Ortiz winning the 8th.

My scorecards matched the official judges. I had Wilder leading by a single point at the time of the stoppage.

The first three rounds were not only terrible to watch, due to a lack of action, but were also challenging to score.

For those first three incredibly tedious rounds, it was simply a case of Wilder’s work-rate versus Ortiz’s quality. The winner of those rounds probably depended on personal stylistic preferences.

If you don’t like the American or usually support the underdog or simply prefer the Cuban’s fundamental skills over Deontay’s crude approach, then I can understand why people’s scorecards would differ from my own.

If I’d scored the first three rounds to the Cuban, because to be fair, they could have gone either way, then I would have had Ortiz leading by an 87-83 margin.

Let's be fair and honest though, the first three rounds were appallingly bad and there was no clear-cut obvious winner for any of them.

I thought they were all clear Ortiz rounds. Wilder couldn't really get through with any of his shots. Ortiz wasn't landing a ton either, but his jab was troubling Wilder and he just seemed to be having his way more early. More accuracy on his shots.

I scored it even. 5-4 Ortiz in rounds but even up with the knockdown.

Scores really don't matter with Wilder. Just like the Washington bout

That final uppercut tonight would take anyone's head off.

Wilder is a frightening combination of unreal power, solid chin, speed and heart.

The first 4 rounds were hard to score. Personally I didn't think either guy deserved to win those rounds. Who you gave those rounds to affects your score greatly. The judges must have given half of them to Wilder to have him ahead.
I thought Ortiz was winning the fight slightly but it was hard to score based on the first few boring rounds.

The scariest thing about him is his Killer Instinct I think. When he has you hurt he attacks like a vicious dog.

Just because rounds are boring don't mean somebody didn't get the better of them. Ortiz clearly won those rounds.

I'm the biggest Wilder fan I know.
And even I scored the first 4 rounds to Ortiz.
I had Ortiz up by 4 points going into the tenth round.

I had it the same way.

The 5th was obviously one of Wilder's rounds. What was the other one you gave him? It was the 9th for me.

Yeh, he clearly lost 3 of the opening 4 rounds against Washington.. Especially on my card. 5th round comes. What scorecards? What judges?

This is Wilder we are talking about. He's dangerous all 12 rounds.

Going to take another look at the fight later but it did seem like Ortiz was ahead on the cards until Wilder unleashed the big one.
Not sure why people are so shocked at judges and referees as we see it all the time, it wasn't that long ago Anthony Joshua had his fight with Carlos Takam stopped prematurely if I remember correctly.

All about how you scored the first 4 rounds. If you had Ortiz 4-0 then you are going to think it was a crazy. I had it 2-2 same as the judges. They were very close rounds of nothing much happening, probably best left to ringside judging where anaylsis is much easier than TV.

I thought it looked like a matter of time as well Gil. Once Wilder started actually throwing his right it was landing or close to landing and I just got the feeling that he was gonna land a big shot before the 12 rounds were over.

I agree. Didn't think the first 4 rounds were close at all. Not a lot of action, but one fighter was clearly controlling those rounds behind his jab, while shipping absolutely nothing in return. I thought they were very easy to score.

The close rounds for me, were the 6th (which I gave to Wilder) and the 9th (scored it even, but Wilder could have just edged it). 1, 2, 3, 4, 7 and 8 I thought were clear for Ortiz.
