Another night of boxing another night of loaded deck.

Post by Heretic »

Wilder vs Ortiz match goes to show exactly what is wrong with boxing today.

I had the fight 87 - 83 for Ortiz at the time of the stoppage.

Official scores were 3x 85 - 84 for Wilder. Wilder won many rounds by doing absolutely nothing.

Also there was the doctor check when Wilder was having trouble at start of round 8. He spent most of the round recovering from the last round and that extra time in the beginning of the round could very well led to him to win the fight.

Wilders team caught Ortiz at good time. Ortiz was looking slow and ponderous and failed to finish the job when he got Wilder hurt. He still had the unbeaten record and was highly regarded even thou he didn't look that good in the last few fights he had.

Still good job from Wilder winning the first meaningful match after winning the title. I really hope he keeps it up and wont revert back to fighting taxi drivers and mail box builders.

85 - 84 includes a 10-8 round for Wilder in the 5th and a 10-8 round for Ortiz in the 7th (despite no knockdown)

It's not like it was a wide lead. 1 point isn't that bad. The opening 4 rounds were ugly to even score. As you may know, champions tend to win closer rounds. I didn't make that rule up.

In case you haven't been paying attention, 95% of the heavyweight division is comprised of taxi drivers and mail box builders.

Did you think that Ortiz' unbeaten log was accumulated by toppling one HOF fighter after another?

Same with Joshua. Same with Parker. The heavyweight ranks are what they are.

Big Baby has accomplished less than Ortiz but many consider him a top tier contender.

Go figure.

Go tell that to Pac, Kovalev or GGG.

Its the "A side" now days that always win the rounds that are not dominated by either boxer.

I guess the big fights, it's all about the 'A' side.. But other world title fights, it always favours the champions

I honestly didn't think the first 4 were close or difficult to score... Ugly to watch, definitely. I thought one guy clearly won all 4 though. Ortiz won all 4 scoring criteria in all 4 rounds. Didn't do much at all, but not much is still more than nothing.

You're right about the 10-8 round to Ortiz though. If there was any deliberate wrongdoing, they probably wouldn't have awarded that. Saying that, no deliberate wrongdoing doesn't automatically equate to good judging. The official cards were garbage.
