Can This Fight Determine if Deontay Wilder is LEGIT?

It is actually good for Wilder that the fight went later, and he had to over-come adversity to win. If he had another 30 seconds at the end of round five, he would have finished Ortiz. He also had the chance to show that his skinny chicken legs will hold him up, and displayed a very solid chin. His technique isn't the best, but then again I have not heard anyone ever brag about how technically polished he is.

I have to hand it to him. That was not only a quality win but he did in almost mirror like image to the way that Joshua did it to Wlad. Wilder called it and said that it was his heart that would determine what he would go through for a win like this and he did it.

There's something about his bull rushes that are so effective. I wonder why he doesn't do it like once a round. He bull rushed Ortiz 4 or 5 times last night and got a knockdown and the KO out of it. Wilder should not try to fight going backwards. That's not his MO.

I thought Wilder fought a very smart fight. I think he might have got picked off if he'd gone after Ortiz from the start. The crazy thing was I think Deontay recovered better from the storm that was round 7 than Ortiz did, and Luis might have been effective for longer had he not seen an opportunity to finish Deontay in round 7.

Hate to introduce a note of negativity after such an awesome fight, but those scorecards were a disgrace and Wilder saved us from a very controversial decision.

It was a good win for Wilder and I was pleased he had to go through a bit of trouble to get there. Made the fight exciting.

Wasn’t overly impressed with the quality on show though. Wilder probably showed Ortiz a bit too much respect to begin with but that’s a good sign actually, he fought smart.

Ortiz? I don’t think anyone here will claim they think that was the best Ortiz you’ll ever see, he’s past his best, clearly. I still think Wilder beats Ortiz at his very best anyway though. Wladimir Klitschko, Ortiz most certainly is not.
