ADAM SMITH ~ Worst commentary I’ve ever heard

Post by Matt W »

Growler Smith was unbearable last night. Every time Wilder landed a punch he sounded like he was going to shoot his load. The hype machine is ruining modern sports coverage. Awful.

It was fvcking dire from Smith, even worse than his typical dross.

I did think Nelson offered quite a bit more decent insight than usual though, when he wasn’t too busy fanboying over Wilder.

It's just hype for the inevitable AJ show down, which I think will be a seriously easy night for AJ

Definitely..

Before the fight he was on repeat. Kept mentioning that Wilder was the 'WBC heavyweight champion'..

Smith and Nelsons commentary spoiled the fight for me.

Why did Johnny Nelson keep whooping ?

Anna Woolhouse is awful as well.

The commentary has been utter gash for years now, I always harp on about the old day but it really was great with Darke and Dempsey

“I’ve scored the first 4 rounds for Ortiz I’m afraid”. Nice bit of impartial commentating there Johnny.

Compare this to Bernstein/Ranallo/Malignaggi who called this fight for Showtime (video now available on Youtube) and it just shows you how poor Smith is. Granted, commentating is not an easy job, but Smith is appalling given how long he's been doing it.

It’s far from easy but there’s a few out there who can do it well. There’s literally hundreds who can do it better than Smith! He’s the worst you’ll ever hear, by a mile.

What’s wrong with Darke? He’s stuck doing football on BT and he’s not good at commentating on football ironically!

They were so terrified of the Joshua Wilder fight getting blown it was comical. Adam Smith is diabolical.

And how near is that fight to actually happening- dosent seem like Wilder will accept a Parker like purse’ even though it’s a decent pay day- so that fight probably won’t be happening any time soon either

At the end of the fight Smith was going absolutely nuts, fortunately Nelson cut him off.

He really offer nothing at all. I much prefer Dave Farrar on C5, at least he can read a fight, even if he is more a football specialist.

Eddie was on 5 Live this morning reckons Wilders team will accept 60/40 split but also said a fight could happen in Vegas. Didnt seem to add up given they can sell 90k tickets for Wembley.

Smith desperately tried to copy ian darkes style of commentary but its never worked and he ruins fights consistently. He gets the nice ringside seat in vegas/msg etc. He really is one of the worst aspects of british boxing.

You’ve missed the context. By him saying “I’m afraid” indicates a bias towards Wilder. Not very professional as Roy mentioned earlier in the thread.

There's always a bias toward the bigger name. It's kinda standard.

He should be impartial, especially with two "away" fighters.

But in the context he was talking about Wilder and his chances of winning. It was clearly a case of him suggesting 'it's unfortunate for Wilder that he's four down.'

Hard to say he was biased when even after the result he said he had Ortiz four up.
