Danny Lopez v. Fel Clemente.

Post by Rover »

I have the broadcast with Bud Collins and SRL doing the commentary. Bizarre fight where Clemente was doing very well and then got DQ'd. Thoughts on it?

Have always wanted to see this one. Lopez was getting hit as usual but this time he didn't reply with a knockout.

I am in the middle of retyping my fight list, then I suddenly saw this.
My list says tecnical decision (4 rounds) for Lopez - I have to watch the fight again tonight.

I have just had a look. Very confusing ending. They are banging heads with Clemente the chief offender. After the last headbut, Lopez has a bad cut over the right eye. The referee signals headbut and calls the doctor who stops the fight. The judges scorecards are collected and Lopez is announced as the winner. (I cannot hear the Italian announcer). My guess is that they deducted some points from Clementes score and gave Lopez a tecnical decision. That is within the rules at that time. It looks as a decision for me, but it could of course have been altered to a disquilifation afterwards.

Sounds a bit dodgy, much like Napoles-Muniz 1. Lopez got a break but I suppose he deserved a break.
