Father and son

Post by REEVE »

Hello lads

I know it has happened in other sports but has there ever been a time when a father and son have been active at the same time ?

According to boxrec Paul Samuels’ son Jerome Samuels made his pro debut the day before his dad had his final bout.

Update:

Oliver McCall and son Elijah McCall were active at the same time and boxed in the same show.

Thomas Hearns and son Ronald Hearns overlapped for 2 years.

I was covering Euro prospects for a boxing website back then, I remember touching on that fight before it happened as a very whacky oddity. Sr. boxed under an alias, came in over 300 pounds, and was stopped in the second by his son. A very low point for Dutch boxing :OhYes:

It's not like Takam was a contender at that time, he was less than a year into his pro career.

Still, a 16 year old heavyweight is very very rare. In fact, I can't name any other.

A little quiz. A father and son both won the British Heavyweight title. They had a common opponent, the son boxing him six years after the father. Naming the two champions should be easy. But who was the opponent?

By the way REEVE, you boxed well Saturday night. Maphosa is quite a talent. It was good to sit and talk to you before the bout.

The Camacho's fought on each others cards quite regularly.

I'm sure Chavez Snr and Jnr also did that.

Bloody hell, so a 39 year old man makes his debut, gets knocked out in the 2nd rounds then then following month fights his own son - who also knocks him out in two.

Funnily enough, Jr went the distance in his first two wins then stopped every other man he beat. Although he NEVER beat anyone with a winning record & ten of his fifteen wins were against fighters who had never won a bout

What about the British boxers where Dad was a pro..... then son turned pro, had a career and then retired: and Dad was still active!

Indeed, Dad fought a famous Father-Son combo ten years apart.

To be fair, Sr. was a late replacement when the original opponent fell through last minute. Not that that makes it any better
